I have already contacted the council members who do something. There is nothing more I need to do except wait for a couple of phone calls. Then it starts over again tomorrow.

Glad to know you're "running the city" from behind "the curtain" we can just call you the Wizard Of Cove :) Make sure to take your happy pill tomorrow before you start making decisions again! Maybe the V will help some?

I'm going to make it my mission in life to see this EDC board get tossed. I recommend in addition to tossing the EDC board you should include getting this "black hole" shut down for good? Look back, it's been nothing but "hope" and wants for a "change" and this ideology has not worked for EDC nor is it working for our country. This tax pig and all the little piggies who line up at the EDC trough needs to be done away with ASAP. No excuses, no more "hope", no more "changes." It's too late. Don't worry about hurting Clayton's feelings. He will find another way to occupy his time and lust for money and power. Mama pushes her boy too much?

The chamber could do the same job for a lot less.

Chamber had their shot at it and it was a complete mess. Turn the lights and water off. Put a fresh blood adminstrative assistant under the City Finance Director to manage closing the doors on this tax pig forever. Black hole is endless. Anyone have a cumulative profit and loss statement on this tax pig?

I was thinking the same thing, Fred. The EDC has been around now for 15 years or so. Take all the money they have spent since day one. Then list all the businesses they actually brought to this city. I know they trump their chests about GC Services, Walgreen's, etc., but we know better. The EDC had little, if any, involvement with bringing some of the businesses they claim. Then add up all the property taxes and sales taxes collected by these businesses they brought here. Compare the two. Remember, we lost millions of $$ on No Touch. I'd be willing to bet they'd be in the RED.

I have some thoughts on the EDC. First off I feel that our community does indeed need and EDC, can it be ran better and produce more results I believe it can. In Killeen and other communities around us I see they are set up as part of the Chamber, you have a VP for the EDC and a VP for the Tourism Department of the Chamber and the Chamber director is over both of these positions. Does this system work better, I am not sure but their missions for our community are very close to the same so it doee make sense I think. I think maybe we should give it a try and see. Okay there are some of my thoughts on the EDC blast away at them ! Retired 1SG wrote: Good morning, Mark. No comment on the EDC though?

I think that the structure of the EDC is OK. It was designed in part to give residents some say so in its actions through the City Council. That it hasn't seemed to work out that way isn't a structural problem, it's a people/management problem. As I have expressed before, I was disappointed that the current council reappointed the chair and treasurer - that's not a very good start on solving a people/management problem.
I believe that an orderly turnover of EDC board members might be a start to solving the problem. Should current members be reappointed I would be all in favor of disolving the entity and eliminating the tax which supports the EDC. It should be obvious to the council that the EDC has lost the trust and faith of a significant number of people in the city - too many promises and too few results tend to do that.
I further believe that, as I have posted before, it would a terrible and possibly fatal mistake to hire a local with limited or no experience in the field as the next Director. We need to go outside and find someone with solid experience in small business development, marketing and management and hire them. This is too critical a job, and too expensive, to have someone on OJT.

I totally agree thst we should go outside to hire the next director and do a orderly turnover of the EDC Board that will give the new director some board members that can help him or her get their feet on the ground and running. Just thought also thet we could get more accomplished if we placed both organizations under the same roof as they are both very critical to getting new business into our community and retaining old business at the same time. Is there any new word on the status of the Sign ? Thought the EDC was to hear something from TxDot a week or so ago. Also the land exchange is taking a very long time. I wonder what the hold up is on that deal. We keep hearing the the Goverment is slow in acting but there seems to be something not right about the swap. Could all these problems be related to the departure of Conners?

Ernie,
TxDOT said no to the Hwy. 190 spot on Fort Hood several weeks ago. We had it in a couple of stories. The EDC is now looking at several other locations. We'll try to get something on the land exchange next week.

We have heard nothing from Mr. Clayton in a very long time. The EDC Board must have named the President as their spokesperson. There really has been nothing positive to report other than Conners leaving, which was good news.

See that we will have a report on the Sign Status at each regular Council meeting. There will be only one meeting in December. At least we have one more chance this year to hear something. Good or bad.
