Lewisville Banks: No Hoods, Hats or Sunglasses

No hats, no hoods, no sunglasses in Lewisville banks. The city is encouraging banks to post signs asking customers to remove those items before entering in an effort to stop robberies when a suspect passes a note demanding money.

“‘Note job’ robbers try to be inconspicuous, which is why they wear a hat or hood,” said Lewisville police Capt. Kevin Deaver. “Now if they don’t comply, they become conspicuous and, hopefully, uncomfortable so they won’t try to rob the bank.”

Capt. Deaver said that most of the banks in the Lewisville area have implemented the program that was inspired by a similar one in Highland Village.

“[The signs] give us something to stand on, to back us up,” said Becky Bowlen, an employee at Bank of the West, where Lewisville police posted signs earlier this week. Ms. Bowlen said that patrons don’t seem to mind the new policy.

A Bank of America branch in Lewisville said it has not implemented the program because it was still waiting for approval from its corporate office.

It used to be considered rude to not remove hats and sunglasses when entering a building...but now I'm sure they'll make another stupid law. Just another case of guilty till proven innocent.

Today I visited the local branch office of my Credit Union (Grow Financial) to conduct business and was told by the woman at the reception desk to remove my hat and sunglasses. Shocked, I asked, when did this start as I have been doing business with this institution for years and she informed me that is was a new policy and that the sign is posted over there as she motioned with her hand. As my wife and I waited to be assisted by a loan officer we witnesses two other people with sunglasses on and one with a "dew" rag sort of head gear which I am sure would be considered a hat. None of these other members were asked to remove their prohibited attire. Their sign asks "MEMBERS" to remove these items, it makes no request of non members or potential bank robbers. I am a honorably discharged vet who served five years active duty in the Army and have sent hundred of thousands of dollars through this financial institution.
