Joe's mom is one of the strongest people I have ever met. She says she will be ok because she has no hate in her heart. This is an example we should all follow! With hate in your heart you can not handle what life gives you. She is an amazing woman and a great example to all of us! We should all live by her words. Hate produces Hate.

Joey wrote: <quoted text> Smart enough not to have sent them to public schools!!! Joey, I hope you saw channell 4 news this morning (Saturday). Our band was praised and recognized for their accomplishments. This could not have been a more approptiate time. You sounded like a fool when you criticized our schools band. To all the band members, congratulations keep up the good work. Your community is very proud of you all. Enjoy the parade

I, too, am a big fan of not just the Band, but of all the extra curricular activities made available to the kids in this neighborhood. Maybe if the hoodlum that commited this crime, or the victim, or their friends used some of the opportunities that this community has made available to them, this may not have happened. It really doesn't matter how "good" the football team is or where the members of our award winning band are going to be when they leave CHS. Their time, RIGHT NOW, is not spent roaming the streets of Copiague. They spend a tremendous amount of time dedicated to an activity they truly enjoy. I know, AT LEAST, that my children are spending MOST of their free time learning responsibility, perserverance, determination and many other qualities that will make them productive members of society when they are let loose on the community as "grown-ups". I know where my kids are, who they are with and what they are doing almost all the time. I do not know this because they tell me. I know because I check on them, go through their pockets, talk to their friends, show-up when they don't expect me. I make sure parents are home before they can "hang-out" at someone's house. They aren't allowed to just cruise around in someones car without a destination. I do not do any of those things because I don't trust my kids. I do it because they are KIDS. They are legally my responsibility until they are 18 years old or out of high school. Morally I would say even longer than that. I would consider myself irresponsible if I didn't do all of those things. I do know that bad things do happen to good people. It helps if they aren't running amuck through the streets with noone to answer to.

Very Sad, no problem. It's sad that we can now use this event as an example of what can happen. I know some think that weed is no big deal or everyone smokes. I will admit, that isn't so outrageous. Maybe this really wasn't about a "deal" and the rumor mill has taken-off, but as so many studies have shown, alcohol and marijuanna are gateway drugs. A lot of times they can be the beginning of a problem that is sure to come. I hope like you do, that this will be the end of a problem for some. Parents have to stick together. ON ANOTHER NOTE: I was wondering if anyone knows if there is there any relation between the suspect and Champagne Bennett? I was just reading that Chapagne Bennett shot and killed someone a while back on Copiague Place. I could be way off.

Everyone involved refused to talk to the media. That is why it didn't make front page. Joe's Mom asked that we all not speak to the media and let the police conduuct their investigation. No one called the cameras this past week, and their were plenty of memorials. We didn;t have any juicy stuff to say, so they went away. thank god!!!!

Ok, first of all.. i knew joe and i knew him well. and i know the friend that drove him home extremely well. let's see how all of you ignorant people react when your friend is shot infront of your very eyes, everyone else scatters, and you have to quickly think of anything, SOMETHING, to do. i would hate for anyone to be in that situation, but in all of your cases i would enjoy seeing how you would react, and then criticize you when you stand there frozen. so please, don't give opinions on things that you just don't understand. joe was amazing, and he didn't deserve this kind of ending. he deserved to get old and live his life and follow through with all of his dreams, which i know he would of done. so rest easy joe. i love you as well as all of your great friends and strong family. we will all see you again one day.

For all you ignorant people who decided to call copiague a shit hole- You have no idea what our community is about. We are a tigh knitted town with people who love their neighbors and seek support for one another. Copiague has an award winning band, a kick ass basketball team, and one thing that knocks all you tweeps down. We have an understanding to this world. Yeah of course not everything is perfect but not for nothing living in an area where shit does happen helps you to be ready for the real world.Unlike Levittown or Massapequa copiague has a motley mix of teens and families. This is whats in the real world!!! Solving problems and working things out within a community is what we do. Copiague is not a shit hole, and don't make assumptions like that. I personally knew Joe and the kids in the car. They are all great people and regardless of what happened, we as a nation should put our hearts out to those like his family instead of bashing others for what happened. Where did the respect in this country go, and how can somebody who knows nothing about what we do and where we live say ANYTHING about a topic that is meaningless to them. A shithole is everything but Copiague....But a shit head can be used in regards to those who just throw negative comments out on topics related to those who are grieving during this hard time. My prayers go out to the family and friends of Joe. God bless.....

LIer wrote: He was shot at the Pinelawn Ave location and then a friend drove him to his home on Pleasantview Ct. Why his friend drove him home after he got shot in the head instead of immediately calling 911 is beyond me. So how much is the bet that this kid was involved with drugs? Let me know when the pool starts. You people need to get a life. You have no idea what this family went through because of these actions. You are not aware of any history or background knowledge of anything preceding this story. You should be ashamed. Whether he was involved with drugs or not he was a 17 year old child that had his whole life ahead of him. How would you feel if this was your child? I am completely appalled by how ignorant people really are.
