The Putnam County Library is now charging to use the Internet if you don't have a library card. Its $1.00 for the hour. Is this good or bad for our community?

Well...if you're dumb enough to pay $1 instead of choosing to get a free library card then consider it a stupid tax.

But if you live outside of Putnam County it's 10 bucks a year for a card.

Why should they offer a free service to people who don't even live in this county? The library is supported by tax dollars therefore only people who live and pay taxes here should be allowed to use it without charge.

Lmao you can get internet for like...ten bucks a month and a used computer for almost nothing. You're not going to be playing any Call of Duty on it or anything but it'd serve the purpose. And don't try to tell me that's too expensive, either. I lived on an income of $1200/month for a while and still managed to afford internet on top of other bills and food.

I think they should charge everyone. Why should my tax dollars pay to let someone else have free internet because they won't pay for their own like me?

It's not my problem that you don't want to take advantage of the services you're paying for.

It's just another method of dividing the "haves" from the "have nots".

Bullsh@t. This is the democratic way of thinking They want you poor and dependent on the govt Work hard and one can "have" it all. It's the American dream. Most everybody that has anything worked their butts off for it. Nobody owes you anything. God made us all just alike. What you do with it is your own destiny. In fact poor people have more programs and opportunities than others

No it isn't. By definition, democracy is allowing everyone the opportunity to voice their thoughts on decisions that affect their lives (See: Voting). If you're against democracy then you are in favor of autocracy. You're thinking of liberalism, but you still don't know what you're talking about. Liberalism is the belief that everyone is deserving of equal rights (live and let live) and that everyone should have a fair shake, NOT that everyone should be given handouts. Visit a school in the slums of New York City where 90% of high school freshmen have a 3rd grade reading level and tell me that those kids were given a fair opportunity for success. You can lead a horse to water, but he can't drink if the waterhole is dry.

like buy your own computer and like get dial up like you can get dial up for like less than like 20 bucks a month like it isn't as fast as the library computers but like you can use the internet like any time you want to and like you don't have to take a trip to the library like every time you like use the internet.

Dail up? Haha. Is that for a coal burning computer? Good luck in finding a provider that still does dial up. And if they do they are incredibly behind in technology.

Does anyone actually still go to the library? Based on the grammar, punctuation, and conversation skills, I would think MUCH of this county does nothing but drink and do meth all day.

Even if they do charge a $1 per hour (which several county libraries do), the revenues go to support and enhance the library which is a staple for any community.

Even if you don't go there to check out books or use the internet, they have great used book sales once a month where you can buy $15 books for $0.25 to $2. You don't have to be a member or live in this county to benefit from these sales. Especially if you have kids. the children's books are usually $0.25, which is a great bargain considering how rough kids can be on books.

I find the staff to be incompetent at the front desk. They're either rude and too busy to help (day staff) or completely useless when you need help (night and weekend staff). I go only when things I have put on hold come in.
There are some very rude people on the computers- so I don't use them at all.

Thank you! The library staff stinks for the most part.

Many libraries charge fees for services. Some libraries even charge a library card fee to persons living in their county.
