I think the officers should be commended on their restraint. I don't think they expected such an attack from an inprisoned inmate. I hope he recieves the full sentence for such action. I could not have used such restraint. He would be wishing he had never left Penn, and I would be in jail. So good work officer. It easy to say what you have done unless you were their during that suitation.

One of the three should have taken the very heavy cell door and slammed it on the sob......once they saw he was starting to charge out. Jail door wins every time.

I like the fact that the two male officers had to be taken to the hospital but the female was fine. Must be a tough chick!

Why should they? They know how everything gets turned around. Before it is over the inmate or his family will be suing these officers. You know the drill !!!!

That is very true!! The inmates do know the system well enough to flip it. But if you research it, Putnam County has a bad rap already with inmate suicide, injury, fights, etc.. All of which could have been prevented by "trained" officers!...

i am a former corrections officer at the putnam co. jail. and every officer who works there IS trained. although the people who run the jail do not know what they are doing the officers do. so i would get the facts before you starting saying anything negative about these officers.

Why don't they have riot-type gear to confront an inmate that obscures the cell window, or an inmate that refuses to come out of their cell? Heck, even chucking tear gas grenades through the food service port of the cell might have worked.

This guy has no grounds to sue anyhow. He pulled an aggravated assault against three correctional officers. Inmate versus sheriff's departments usually get tossed from court. Judges are hip to that game. It is an age-old trick that inmates have been pulling for decades.

I never said one bad thing about these officers. I merely stated suggestions and asked questions as to how the situation could have been handled in a way that was more safe for all that were involved.

Why, you are correct. If this criminal gets any type of sentence at all from a local judge it will likely run concurrent with what ever sentencing he gets for his original charge. Usually it is a waste of a corrections officer's time to even take such matters to court.

These men and women are in sitations where they have no other means with which to defend themselv'es other than a can of mace from what I understand. They apparently have to depend on mace and each other (and I am sure they are limited as to what they can physically do) to surpress an act of criminal aggression. So again you are correct in that those officer's need better equipment at hand to utilze in such a situation.

It's Sad we have to restrain our self as These Inmates Spit, throw piss, kick, stomp and assault us with any thing they can get there hands on. Most of us work for about $11-$13.00 an Hour And it's a very stressfull job. Being Fair Firm and Consistant Is very Hard in todays world! Most Police officers deal with these knuckle heads about 45 minutes. Try doing it 8-12 hours every night!

It is a job that u strive to do well, with some inmates that act like animals...it I not any easy job there are many choices and in my exp. It isn't the officers it is the ones running the show from ther office "sweet tator". ;)

This is a job I wouldn't have and thankful that that some do. It's unbelievable how much junk these officers have to put up with and still get sued by some no-account loser. If you don't want your head kicked in act right and stay out of jail.

I know the officers involved very well. They did an awesome job and showed good restraint. I would stand beside them in battle any day. Someone said there was a kid involved soemwhere up top, but there were no kids. Only men and one strong woman.
