Lawsuit: Police Planted Drugs, Sicced Dog On Man

I have several concerns here about what you are saying and showing of this video. I went in and watched the entire thing and in my opinion I think it is a shame that you guys call yourselves investigative reporters when you are doing no such thing and only showing the parts of this video that suits yourselves. Show the entire clip on the air and let viewers see the entire thing so they can draw there own opinions.... Also I suggest mentioning that the officer is on administrative leave WITH PAY.... I think that says it all and remember he is INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.......

This situation is appalling! I saw the tape you aired and there is no doubt that Offc. Chris Melton used excessive force and planted drugs on Mr. Carlos Ferrells. This means that the OFFICER WAS CARRYING DRUGS, and therefore should be brought up on charges himself. Drug possession, abuse of office, deflammation of character and unlawful arrest, just to name a few. The fact that we tax payers are paying for him to be on PAID administrative leave is an abomination.

There seems to be a major problem across this country with Officers not upholding the laws that they swore to uphold.
I wonder if Offc. Chris Melton was high himself since allowed his misconduct to be caught so blatently on film.

In Fla. last July, my son was pulled over because his friend threw a cigarette out of the car window. The Officers had GUNS DRAWN- for a Cigarette!

This abuse of office must be stopped, and certaintly should not be compensated with a paid vacation!

Where were you when they just busted 5 out of 7 Officers in the Sheriffs Dept, including the Chief himself in Gainesboro!

This was a blatent Police set up. Pulling the poor man over and scaring him to death was not enough. Officer Melton wanted to pad the arrest and make it a bigger bust- may I suggest that you watch the tape more closly again, and ask yourself how you would feel it Mr. Ferrells was a member of your family.

i think it was wrong they need to get rid of all the police guys that was there cookeville police does ervey body that way they are no good they dont like black poeple and somthing needs to be done about this

Cookeville City Police dept did about the same thing to my brother. He was beat by 4 officers and sent to the hospital for a gash below the eye and a broken clavical bone. The bone was broke when Officer Mathis stood on his back and the pressure from his boot and the concrete broke the bone. Not that my brother was not wrong for resisting arrest, but Cookeville City take the law into their own hands and go beyond what an officer should be allowed to do. It will not take 4 grown men to stop an unarmmed 165Lb. 22yr. old. That is the fine police department at work.

All Cookeville is about is politics. The officers that are here are sad. Why was the drug dog unleashed on Carlos. I know Carlos very unlikely that he would run or out run them!!!! It is amazing that some of our own drug dealers in Cookeville work with certain police officers. I know this for a fact they have some of their phone numbers and even has officer Mathis's own personal cell phone # stored in their phone. Now that's MESSED UP!!!!!!!!

That was such a poor set up, come on man. If you are going to break the law while you are defeneding it at least have some skills. The crooked cops back home in MI have more skills then you, at least they do not get caught on their own camera.
The real sad part of this comment is the part that it happens at home too.
With that said the law enforcement group around the nation not just in MI and TN need to take a long hard look with in them selfs; and their fellow officers and weed out the bad apples. Because if you don't you will have no power because no one will respect you, I know I don't.

yeah well none of this surprises me. i have had a few run ins with Officer Melton and he has always been very cocky and acts as if he is higher than everyone else.

O.k. all- we all agree that Cookeville as well as many other areas across the country have problem Officers. Does no one care that we are PAYING this man, Offc. Melton. He treated a civilian unjustly and now we are rewarding him with A PAID VACATION! I personally can think of much better uses for MY tax monies!

I agree with Jamie Hayes. If Offc. Meltons motivation for such misconduct is Racism-it is intolorable.

I just watched the tape again- why has the other Officer that was standing right there WATCHING Offc. Melton not mentioned. Unless he is cooperating with the Dept. he should be put on UNPAID administrative leave as well.

I sincerely hope that Carlos Ferrells wins his case and sends a very strong message to all the crooked, abussive, power hungry Officers that think they are above the law- this kind of behavior WILL NOT BE TOLORATED!

i work with this guy and he is pretty nice guy he has had his bad runs in the past but that video .... man thats a bad cop

It is no suprise that people like Melton exsist.It is suprising that one of these cowards would be allowed to hide behind a sacride badge,in a sacride office,after taking a sacride oath to up hold the law and to protect the people.I hope that justice be done,and the police department police itself.I AGREE people should not be rewarded to break the law.

I personally like the hand signal from the other cop holding the civilian (watch it again he makes eye contact then makes a sign with his finger and thumb).

This shows more then just one bad cop is in on this BS. Many have said and I agree the PoPo are the biggest, most organized, best armed gang in the US.

The police did nothing wrong. Ferrell shoud have stoped the car and followed the comands. The oficers did not no why he ran or if he was armed.
