A stopwatch has two reaction times that can really make the result suspect-the time to start it when the officer sees him cross the line and the time to shut it off at the other line. A very short distance between lines makes the calculation even more suspect as it magnifies the errors. Another error comes from the judgment as to when the car crosses each line as the officer was not next to the lines when viewing the vehicle but viewing down the road [or else he could not have stopped it to ticket the driver]. At 88 feet per second at 60 mph it does not take many feet to change the measured speed from what it really is.
To come up with such an accurate "speed" is ridiculous; the math may give that answer, but the determination of the numbers cannot support it. This technique should be banned; it is too old tech and prone to errors. But how many have had tickets with this technique in the past? All suspect. |

That old technology is ok. Give these clowns radar and we'll all be wishing for the old days.
Besides most of them are too dumb or lazy to do the math. |
