I'm sure at one point or another we have all been in the car doing something distracting whether its texting, talking, eating etc... the point some people are missing about this story is that this is someone who lived a possibly tragic accident and instead of being hipocritical with our accusations we should be thankful that we aren't grieving the loss of a young person with a promising future. Some of us might be singing a different tune not to mention any names (TOO BAD) if the roles in these circumstances were reveresed. Overall lesson and point of fact of that matter is that we should learn to be more attentive and happy that christina curtis is still here with us with at least one good looking foot left.

Since you seem to be the ruler of the "dumb ones", why don't you explain how you managed to live? If this were your daughter (and I'm probably sure she is glad she isn't because of your comments), would you be so quick to ask why the dumb ones always live? Probably not. You would be thanking someone that she didn't lose her life.

This person is admitting that she made a mistake and hopefully has learned from her mistakes. She is lucky to be alive and that this error in judgement didn't cost her her life or someone else their life. Why can't we just chalk this one up to an error in judgement and leave it at that?

This was my first thought exactly. It's not like the story about those 5 girls was a well kept secret. Now this young lady hopes others will learn from her mistake? I hope they do but the unfortunate thing is that people just don't think it will ever happen to them, so they ignore the warnings.

I was aside some dumb blonde in a busted white Grand Am ther other day on Rte 5 in Hamburg by the S-Curve near Hoaks and she was not only texting while driving but was fiddling with something else and steering with her knees... What would have happened in that tight curve had she swerved a small bit ? Pile up at evening rush hour!!

How about the people who are holding a cigarette in one hand drivin with their knees and texting with the other hand..

The make-up putter-oners...

The people with IPod ear buds in (while driving!) and selecting songs..

No kidding! Some lady was hardly able to make a turn in front of me yesterday because of the dog on her lap. I was surprised she didn't go straight on into the other lane. I think people are really losing the ability to operate with common sense these days.

I'm just wondering what our world is coming to when someone has to propose a law to make texting while driving illegal?!? We've all been distracted at one point or another while driving, but this is just stupid. No one would have cared that she's learned her lesson if she had killed someone.

I know Cristina, a very bright young lady who made a split second mistake while driving. We know she won't do it again.

Stop the criticism, and be thankful she has lived to tell her story! It just may make a difference to someone else haering about her story.

Thanks to a persons actions while driving, technology and business practices, it will continue. Drive thru's for coffee, fast foods cell phones, radios with loud noise instead of soft music, t.v. monitors, gps on the dashboard, reading the paper, playing with their hair, putting on make-up, etc., it will never stop. As a society, we MUST ALL WAKE-UP!!

how about having the the damm cell phone makers stop making then for texting? noooooooooooooooo of course not even though it has been proven how dangerous it is it is still people;s own choice to do so same with smoking!!!!! so why is that banned ?

I hope Christina has learned her lesson. May she should concider becoming a spokes person for safe driving habbits. Go to around to schools and tell people why it is unsafe to use your cell phone or text while driving.

It's sad, but it seems we need to protect people from thier own actions. Many of the new cars that have navigation systems built in are set up so that the nav system cannot be changed while the car is in motion, so the driver won't be distracted. All of our cell phones have gps built in, so it would seem to be very possible to have the cell phone function only in speakerphone mode while the vehicle is moving, so the operator could talk but would have to stop the vehicle to do anything else. It would seem that a simple thing like this could save hundreds of lives!!

I noticed in most of these major accidents that women are at the wheel "texting and driving". Why are us guys still paying more for insurance?
