Interesting that they're putting it at Tasman and Fair Oaks. I guess with all that new development on the East side of 101 there's a dearth of retail, especially groceries.

Has anyone tried Fresh & Easy? I welcome some more competition if the quality is reasonably high. The Lucky at Maude & Mathilda is intolerable.

I agree. That Lucky's is a pit. I'll go to Arteaga's on Duane or Chavez on Fair Oaks before I go to that Lucky's.

Very interesting story...

According to Wikipedia: "It is a subsidiary of the UK-based retailer Tesco, the world's third largest retailer..."

•In 2007, the supermarket chain announced over £2.55 billion in profits.

•In the UK, Tesco operates ISP, mobile phone, home phone and VoIP businesses.

•Tesco has a banking arm called Tesco Personal Finance, a 50:50 joint venture with the Royal Bank of Scotland. Products on offer include credit cards, loans, mortgages, savings accounts and several types of insurance, including car, home, life and travel.

TESCO is huge in the UK. You can even buy firewirks for Guy Falkes day but I digress.

The Lucky at Grant Road and Foothill Expy (years ago it was an All American Market) is pretty good. I wish someone would put a market in the old "Alpha Beta" building at Fremont and Mary.

Is that STILL vacant???...on a side note, remember when the Wild Oats (whatever it might be nowadays, I haven't been to that side of town since my mom sold her house...) was a Safeway!

Does anyone know where the one in Hayward is going to be? It should be interesting to compare these stores to TJ's and Whole Foods.

I work next door to that vacant building on Fremont and Mary. Yesterday Fresh and Easy people were there taking pictures and serveying the building. I talked to them and they confirmed a Fresh and Easy was going in there. They are taking up half that store, 14,000 sq. ft! We were happy to hear that! What's even better is I live at Tasman and Fair Oaks...I will have access to both of these stores!!!!

That is great news! I don't care for the Safeway at Hollenbeck and Homestead. I hope it goes through, that store has been empty for awhile.

And you can take your union and shove it where the sun don't shine. I can distinctly remember the union telling me that "we're" going to strike because "we" do not like the terms of our contract. "I", for one, was content with the wages and terms. "I" for one, could not afford to not work and the stipend the union would provide while on strike was pennies compared to what I normally made. Unions care for the collective body, not the individual. So again, you can take the "union" and shove it.

It's about access too. My options are limited in North Sunnyvale. The food quality at Safeway at Lohmans plaza is below acceptable sometimes.

If they put a store at Fremont and Mary it would serve A LOT of people

I agree MO... and it will be nice to see that old Alpha Beta site finally filled!!!...my response to what I interpreted "ben-dover" errr... franklin's attempt to speak negatively of the project due to it not being a "union" job and originating with a company from overseas.

It might be a union in the UK actually. I'll have to ask a friend in Bristol.

Full Circle Farms is getting closer to opening a vegetable stand on their farm too. Union? Nein! Those folks at Full Circle are volunteers

So does anyone know what else is going in on Tasman & North Fair Oaks besides Fresh & Easy? Or know what website to go to? I am excited to know. Yes and it will be so nice just to walk to a grocery store instead of driving all the time just to pick up a few things close to home. Especially if you forget something.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Virgo

Be careful you don't wind up doing someone else's work today, Virgo. There are all sorts of little tricks to persuade you to take pity on them, from pretending to be ill to making such a hash of everything that you can't bear to watch for a moment longer. Then you are likely to be asked to put in some overtime, at the expense of your social life. Grr.
