Yeah, his attorney says its' very scary for an 8 year old kid. Even one who just killed his father and a friend? Maybe the big bad police should have let Big Bird or Barney interrogate him.

Get real. Who are we as a country if we try an 8-year old as an adult? Have you ever met an 8-year old?

Do you even understand the legal standard of mens rea and criminal capacity that must be proven in a murder case?

This is nothing but media sensationalism that should be ignored from here forward. The child will not and cannot be tried as an adult in our criminal justice system. That is the only sane and legally defensible conclusion.

My father taught me to fire a Winchester and a Smith and Wesson when I was eight years old. Every week we went to the gun club while I learned to target shoot. My dad went to work all day every day and only my mother and I were home.
Where we lived, we were surrounded by cougars and rattlesnakes. I saved the family dog and the neighbor kid from being attacked by a cougar when I was ten. The cougar to this day, and I am 53, is the only thing I have ever killed with a gun.I don't even hunt, am not a proponent of hunting. I am however a proponent of knowing when to use a weapon and how to use a weapon.
Both of my kids, a boy and a girl, learned to shoot when they were eight as well. Their father is a cop and guns were in the house ALL the time. Now my kids are 18 and 16 and the only thing they have ever killed is skeet. But if they had to they could. And more importantly they know enough about guns not to play with them.
You have to know your kid, how responsible they are, how physically strong they are, and you have to have a good reason to teach your kid to shoot.
People who have guns in the house and never teach their kids to use them are walking accidents.
People whose kids live in neighborhoods with parents who have guns and yet never teach their kids to use them, are walking accidents.

...there's term for this which eludes me now. There are probably many angles to this story but they intersect at the final tragedy.

Paedofiles typically use the ruse of fishing to lure little boys to go out all alone on their boat, hence the term, "little man in the boat".

They should really have some type of test to prove one should be allowed to have a gun.

Yes, the Nazis tried that back in 38 with predictable results.

Indeed. they kill things. They also protect. The police have guns, as does the military. Concealed guns in the hands of private citizens have saved countless lives out on the street from old men wardings of a group of thugs to a woman shooting a rapist that wanted to violate her. There are human predators out there Jane, and unless you are profecient in hand to hand combat and can take somone on that might outweigh you by 70 pounds, then a gun might be something you should consider. A human life is valuable, to that there is no doubt. The question is is your life more valuable or is a criminal's life more valuable than your own?

It could be assumed that during my shooting of thousands of rounds over the years that at least one insect was killed as a result of their negligence in following firing range policy by being down range during shooting activity.

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Libra

Remember that life isn't all fun and games: handle your responsibilities first, then plan how to have a good time. Your impulses, once you yield to them, will have a tendency to lead you further and further from where you need to be. Make sure you lock the door behind you before disappearing; when you're in this kind of mischievous mood, you probably won't want anyone else to know where you're going.
