Sutherland accepts County Manager position

I wish Mr. Sutherland good luck and an open welcome to Deming/Columbus/Luna County. I just got off the phone with a good colleague of mine who is employed with the City of Tucumcari. As was stated in the conversation, he is a good, honest individual who worked well with the departments. He was let go because he would not let the mayor and two city commissioners push him around as he stood up for his employees. I realize time will tell, but it looks like the Luna County Commissioners made a wise selection. Now, let's work on electing a Deming mayor and two city councilor's in March 2010 who have the guts to remove McInturrf and break the good-ol-boy system.

I would hope that the new county manager would answer 4 simple questions to stop the flow of wonderment and set a solid foundation or his beginning as Luna Counties new leader:

#1 Why were you fired from your last job?

#2 Are you related to anyone on the board of commissioners?

#3 Is there a probationary period that he will be serving?

#4 Are you willing to take a 10% pay cut, to lead by example, as pay cuts and budget cuts are going to be needed?

When these 4 questions are answered, then I believe it will be time to welcome him and his family to Luna County...

1. Why should he be held to a higher standard than the rest of the county employees?

2. The entire county is inbred, point?

3. Probationary periods only apply to honesst people.

4. I think a ten percent increase or cut would make no difference to snyone in the land of disappearing funds and misallocations.

5. No outsider is ever welcome in Dumbing, yes Dumbing.

I just hope the new county mgr has a backbone to get rid of the Gilmore clan and all their high paid employees.Where else but in Lona county can a person with a ged make over 90K per year.

I am not defending any particular person but just want to make a point. Having a college degree doesn't always mean you are smart. You can have a lot of KNOWLEDGE but lack WISDOM.

Well this certainly goes against the grain of posts on here noteing that he was fired from his previous job? Time well tell i guess...

Unhappily, informed and uninformed politicans usually run for office with a personal agenda. That is an obstacle career government officials face in their jobs, whether it's in a big city or small town. Lesson: TRY NOT TO ALIENATE THE POLITICAN(s)....or you're out-the-door.
