You are very wrong "No Loss" as is the Council for allowing Mr. Dolan to leave. MB is one of the finest cities in the nation and you can point to the leader...the CM to attribute to its success. As a Financial Consultant, I know that MB is one of only two AAA Bond rated cities in the entire State of California, the worst Bond rated State in the Nation. How does MB stay so successful? From prudent fiscal management that comes from the CM! I suspect the Council will want a puppet of a CM to take over instead of a strong, experienced CM. If so, watch MB crumble into the ocean...layoffs, furloughs and cut services will lead the best city officials to leave as well as the best city businesses. Watch...I'll say within two years, MB will be a shell of what it is today...Keep watching the news. Mr. Dolan...you earned some time off! The rest of that City thanks you for your tremendous service.

What a terrible mistake to let Mr. Dolan get away. Short sited council members made a mistake here!

MB is successful because of it's wealthy tax base. The city government is bloated and could stand to use a couple of rounds of layoffs and service cuts. If Dolan was a prudent fiscal manager then boy are we in trouble now!

Let's do the math....35,000 residents. About 95% of surveys indicate all are happy with city services. However, 10-20 gadflys are unhappy and want a change. Maybe a few other cowards don't come to council and instead hide behind emails to Council complaining....Thus, we have elected officials not accepting responsibilities for things they voted for and blame the CM causing him to resign. I certainly cannot blame him. Strandman is right! The Council reacts to a few squeaky wheels, perhaps silencing them in the shortrun, but they will rue the day over this one! I'm glad this isn't a legacy that I will be known for!

He was such a prudent fiscal manager that he had to rent out his city-subsidized MB house and live in Lawndale. This is the best thing to ever happen to the City. He's one of the most pompous, arrogant a-holes to ever walk the earth.

Finally, plastic bag bans and censuring state rocks can proceed unimpeded by the city council.

Anyone that ever had the pleasure of working with, or for, Mr. Dolan knows that truth. The City Council made a HUGE mistake by letting him go. The citizens of Manhattan Beach have lost a true community asset. If Mr. Dolan decides to manage another city elsewhere, MB's loss will be that city's gain.

You couldn't be more wrong. A friend of mine works there. Dolan was hated by virtually everyone in the organization. He was totally in it for himself and didn't give a rat's ass about anyone or anything else. He'd have turned Manhattan Beach into a ghetto if there was a better deal in it for himself.

I am confidant that the fine people of the city council and city officials have made the correct decision to let Geoff go.
Rather uncomfortable to watch him shamelessly push under grounding and allow certain bar czars to run amok, eh?

i rather liked geoff personally, but it was time for him to go - he was, in a sense, running the city, not managing it, until this new council took back the rei(g)ns -

we elect our councilmembers to lead - and with a city manager so well entrenched, it is a difficult repositioning, at best - before his resignation announcement, council had just taken back what is rightfully its place - considering and directing the traffic, not simply stamping approval on city employee recommendations -

a) the city is in a terrible situation with threatening aging infrastructure, and suddenly, must take it on in this terrible economy - it was under his 15-year watch - can't deny it -

b) pretty, petty things were accomplished - metlox - and the taj mahal pd/fd - we could have given our deserving pd & fd more for our money than 'but you LOOK gorgeous'- a sorry throwback to the mira costa mahal - an extravagant building over the students and teachers real needs -

c) a hired undergrounding engineer who made ghastly engineering errors costing homeowners and city taxpayers so much (she's gone now, but we never knew why until this last batch of districts assessment costs came to light)-

d) geoff's recommendation for select salary increases and bonuses for jobs well done hit a sour note with the vast majority of residents - when residents were losing theirs - so random and 'in your face'- especially after downtown businesses pleaded for a 50 cent parking meter rollback because of lack of business!

yup, it was time for geoff to leave, too. and, as i said, i like him, personally, but disagreed with him from time to time. nonetheless, with all the money this city has/had/will once again have - i'm confident it will find another creative soul to work well with council and city staff - in due time.
