i completely understand where the wife is coming from. She wants to still have a part of him to look at everyday. What is this world coming to, this soliders mother is acting like anna nicole smiths mother. Just realize he's up in heaven looking down on you and waiting for time to pass when you can be toghether again.. And probably shaking his head at his mother for all the heartache and grief she is putting you though.. God bless, my prayers are with you

The mother is right! You cant just take the man's sperm! You dont even know if he wanted a baby with her!! It's not right! I totally agree with his mom on this one, it's like stealing a baby!

Maybe he did want a baby with his WIFE nobody knows but her. And if they were married it looks to me like the wife could do whatever she likes with the sprem. The mother will not have to pay for any of it. Also she would have a grandchild that would be part of the son she lost.

I'm willing to guess you're one of those crazy mother-in-laws who baby's the heck out of your son and thinks no woman is good enough for him.

If he didn't want her having his sperm (or anything else) I really don't think he would have married her. If she wants a child from him then she should be allowed - she's willing to take on the responsibility not to mention the emotionally side of it because obviously she loved him very much. I'd probably want the same thing.

The mother needs to realize her job is DONE!!! Remember what God said - that they will leave their parents and join together as one. Which means the mother has no rights to him anymore - he and his wife we're "one". She has every right in my opinion.

Is sperm something that lives on in a deceased person? That seems so odd. He was killed on Monday, she halted the embalming on a Friday.

Well, this is just too weird! But if she is successful with getting pregnant with her dead soldier husband's sperm will she be eligible to receive social security benefits and Army benefits for the kid? A weird way to have your tax dollars at work!

I wonder if he listed his mother as beneficiary to his insurance rather than his wife? Maybe their marriage was coming apart and this is a way to get his death benefits through his child. Death benefits can't be signed away to another party if their are minor children of the deceased to support.

You know, I can totally see where the girl is coming from. My adopted brother was killed in Iraq a few years ago, and his baby son was just a week old when he left. That little boy is just the spitting image of his daddy-talks like him, acts like him, everything. Even when he was tiny he acted like his daddy. It was almost like we didn't really lose Joe, because here was this little part of him still alive. Kinda made it easier to deal with. Even though it is still kind of hard to see the little guy without tearing up.

<Darren Dhanoolal designated his mother as the person authorized to handle his remains upon death.>

I wonder if Darren wanted to bring a child into the world who would never meet or have his father?

I have a feeling the mother-n-law and daughter-n-law don't get along. They are even fighting over his funeral. Can you see them trying to raise a child?

He married her, why wouldn't he want children with her? It would be different if he were alive and just not ready for the responsibility, but in this case, his wife will be taking care of his child. I think they should give the wife the sperm and the mother should back off!

This soldier was a grown man and mom needs to let go and realize her baby boy was a married man! The wife should have the final say on what is to be done with his body, sperm and burial place. My heart goes out to mom, wife and all involved.

HIS will called for his mother to arrange to take care of his funeral, not his wife.

Was the will done before or after they were married? Alot of times people either forget or don't find the time to change their will after they become married or when other changes occur in their life.

Okay I went back and re-read the story and here is what I found....

His wife was made
temporary administrator of his estate on Wednesday, but he died without a will.

So his mom was not in charge of his will because he didn't have one and he left his wife as temporary administrator of his estate. PLUS, he had to be aware of the fact that she was having this surgery to make conception happen. PLUS, she can't be doing it for the money because she, herself will get a large sum of money without having a child by him, plus I don't even think that the child counts on stuff like that unless he'she was conceived before the father's death.

I read the article...he left his remains to his mother. My husband is in the military and the paperwork gives him an opportunity to designate who gets what. So he probably wanted his mother to take care of him..maybe he knew what a sicko his wife could possibly be. This couple probably discussed having children, but he is dead now, they discussed it together. If my husband were to die, God forbid, I would not want to further desecrate his body, no matter how badly I wanted children. Maybe his mother is thinking of honoring her son rather than having his name plastered all over the internet with stories about sperm extraction. My two cents. I feel for the widow though. May God have mercy on her. God bless our troops.
