Thats what I was thinking too. An 18yo can't buy a six pack but they can buy a S&W...that makes way too much sense to me!?!?!?!

I don't see how buying a six pack could help you protect yourself and loved ones. Drinking is not near as important as protecting yourself. why should an 18 year be left defenseless to someone who happens to be 21 or older? After all we do live in the same world and walk the same streets. Open your eyes. make the requirements strict, make it tough for an 18 year old to posses a gun. but at least make it legal.

Finally! I'm setting my daughter up in the business this summer. I can't own a gun due to some personal reasons.

Do you think that most 18yo's are mentally mature or responsible enough to own a gun? I don't.

I'm all for gun ownership, but in this case, it doesn't make sense to me.

i am an 18 year old who has been around guns my entire life. i like this law, because it means if i want to load up my handguns and go to the range and shoot, then i can when i want to and i dont have to wait for a day my dad can go too. it dosnt matter if this law is here or not, crimminals and high school "gang bangers" are gonna get guns, end of story. if i had a dollar for every time one of my friends asked me if i wanted to buy an unregistered handgun, then i would be goin to a university instead of a tech school.

Most people who have posted here are completely uninformed on this issue. This bill does not allow 18 to 20 year olds to go to a store and buy a handgun. That is still illegal under federal law as you must have a Federal Firearms License to sell firearms for profit or in this case run a gun store. All this law does is make it legal for 18 to 20 year olds to buy handguns from other individuals or more importantly, to be able to inherit handguns. Everywhere where firearms are sold, 18 year olds can already buy guns (including so called "assualt weapons", just not handguns(including a .22lr single shot target pistol). This law will not make it any easier for criminals to get a hold of firearms, only for those who are law abiding. Criminals will continue to get access to illegal weapons and use them to commit crimes regardless as to whether or not law abiding individuals are or are not allowed to buy guns.

Yeah if an 18 year old can go to war, shoot machine guns, throw grenades, shoot rockets, why cant they own a hand gun. They could already buy shotguns and rifles.

I have been overviewing each and every one of your opinions. I, myself, turned 18 a few months back. I am about to in the military and the way it seems to me,if I am old enough to go to war and die in honor of my country, then why shouldn't i be able to at least be able to own a damn handgun. many of my friends are not even 18 yet and they already have bought handguns on the black market. you will never stop anyone from buying handguns, no matter what there age is. this issue has already been solved and that is the way it should be.

I agree with you 100%. I to believe if 18 yr old can go over seas and fight and sometimes get killed, they should be treated like adults on their home turf as well. Let them drink, let them vote...and let them own handguns. Let them do it all legally. Why should 18 yr olds only be concidered adults when they put on military clothing?

Alcohol is illegal for anyone under 21 obviously but everyone knows they still get it. Drugs are illegal for everyone but people are still able to get anything you can name. Cigarettes, rifles (including ak47s, m4s, m16s0), and shotguns are legal for 18 year olds. If 18 year olds can join the military and die for their country why shouldn't they be allowed to own handguns. The ones that are using it for crime are going to get one no matter law or not, and probably already have one. Just like the ones getting illegal drugs and just like the ones getting illegal underage alcohol. But either way, if 18 year olds can vote, go to war, smoke cigarettes, and own weapons, they should have all the rights of an adult.

I don't have a problem with this change. (You can hand the a gun and send them overseas to fight and die for our freedom...but you want to bitch and complain once they legalize it here.) You can waste your breath but i back this bill 100%.

18 yr olds that have military training often do not even train with pistols but at least they have training...you could have a 9th grader in HS that had failed a couple of grades buying a pistol with no chain of ownership..no way to verify if stolen..if one of these 18 yr olds gets padded down during traffic stop or has pistol in wrong location in auto etc. gues what they will be arrested..unbelievable

Daily Horoscope for December 11

Gemini

Beware of taking on too much because it will be an effort to get through it all. You might even have to give up the unequal struggle, which won't do much for your ego or your reputation. Be especially careful about this if you're at work because a certain person may try to take advantage of what they see as your weakness or failure to deliver the goods.
