While lowering the cost of fuel would be a welcome change, I worry about the effect that the loss of revenue would have on state agencies and services and on the state's credit rating.

I think if they lowered the price folks would be more willing to take vacations and travel a bit more, thus increasing the tax profits. Instead of soaking us for all they can get they would actually be getting more by giving us a break, all states should follow this.

What a joke. In the last month oil has dropped over $10 a barrel and it is hardly noticed at the pumps. If it went up $10/barrel I think we might notice a price change.

At $70 a barrel last year we were paying about $2/gal.

They are just training us to accept higher prices soon we will be thrilled to be paying anything between $2 and $2.50/gal verses the 83 cents we paid in Georgia during the last administration.

They just close a few refineries for "re-tooling" and create their own shortfalls to increase demand. How convenient.

Where has the price dropped $10.00 a barrel? It has gone from $64.00 to $72.00 in the last month. Personally a price drop of .30 a gallon sounds pretty good to me.

The government makes more off a gallon of gas than the oil companies. At least the oil companies do something to earn their profits...

How many of you are or have been in the oil business? You almost sound like you know what you are talking about. The profits are being made at the majors level not at the gas pumps that you are pumping your gas. The US is just catching up with the rest of the world on fuel prices. In 1976 I purchase a new Ford pick-up for $7600.00 and gas was about .75 cent just after the oil shortage, at the time I was making $3.50 per hour. Now the same truck is about $35,000.00 , I make $16.50 per hour and gas is $2.889 per gal. Do the math.

If a barrel of oil has gone down $10, I haven't seen the difference at the pumps. If you even hear a news report that it a barrel of oil has gone up, the price at the pumps jump. If it goes doen, it slowly takes a couple weeks and still the prices aren't where they should be.
I have to drive to work, I live out in the country. There is no public transit, cab service, etc. I economize the best I can, run my errands before or after work. Take no unneccessary trips, plan my routes. Use the mail when I can. But I have to work, go to the doctor, buy groceries, these things can't be done by mail or phone. The lower working class are suffering the most. When gas prices go up so does everything else, the cost of producing items and shipping them go up. The only thing that doesn't go up is salary, EXCUSE ME, UNLESS YOU work for the oil company or have stock.

I saw 2 ideas that looked good on the internet and one is Gasogen or a woodburning vehicle. Morther Earth News made one and they have plans for sale. There are a number of free pallets out there. Seems like you could chip them up and use that as fuel.

The second is Kudzu. if you could create an alcohol and then combine it with a Kudzu biomass oil there you have it. Unlimited fuel. Of course is the cost of conversion and creating your own fuel worth it?

"Oil prices surge over $75 a barrel to a record high

Lack of spare capacity in oil production and refining are keeping prices highCrude oil prices surged to a new record of over $75.00 a barrel on Tuesday closing at a price of $75.17. In Europe, Brent crude oil rose to $74.59. In less than a month, prices have risen $10, back to the record highs set after Hurricane Katrina caused refineries to shut down in August 2005. Prices are also 42% higher than a year ago."

The lack of spare oil quoted above is maintained by scheduled refinery closings for "maintenance", creating a lack of production.

Quoting Rueters from April 19th RE:$80 oil

"Tuesday, the United States failed to secure international support for targeted sanctions against Iran and President George W. Bush refused to rule out nuclear strikes if diplomacy failed to curb the Islamic Republic's atomic program.

"All options are on the table. We want to solve this issue diplomatically and we're working hard to do so," Bush said.

The United States, which already enforces its own sweeping sanctions on Iran, wants the Security Council to be ready for strong diplomatic action.

The price of oil has trebled since the start of 2002 and is nearing the inflation-adjusted peaks above $80 a barrel reached in the early 1980s, just after the Iranian Revolution.

The high prices have sounded alarm bells in consuming nations fearful of an economic hit.

The International Monetary Fund said Wednesday the impact of higher oil prices on the global economy was a growing concern. The IMF said in its semiannual World Economic Outlook that it was worried the full effects of the surge in energy prices had yet to be felt."

42% higher oil prices and 100% high lie threshold coming from every corner of government and oil/gas industry. I have no problem what so ever with just plain parking for a day to protest. If the gas prices are unchanged I say stay home another day. The RECORD profits of oil/gas companies speak loudly that these companies are bullying us into this. We have a lot of push back but not many people have the common sense to use it. Well I say if collectivly we are that STUPID then maybe we deserve just what we get - STUCK.

Does one perhaps think that this "maintenance" is just a way to keep the prices up. I think the price of gas, pure and simple is GREED, look who hold lots of interests in the oil industry, none other than that idiot that heads our government. Our government certainly could stop the rising prices if their buddies and the leader weren't profiting by them.

Recently I travelled from SC to NY where I live. The gas prices in SC was at that time $2.83. As I drove I got gas in NC for $2.88 and in NJ for $2.90. When I reached NY I was facing signs that ranged from $3.19 to $3.39 for regular gas. Two weeks later the (lowest)price of regular gas has risen to $3.25. We are all in the same sinking ship .... we cannot afford to drive!

The CBS News link below lists $75.35. http://www.cbc.ca/story/business/national/200...

In either case we the supply is being manipulated and we are being gouged. The companies that have increased revenues are the same ones that were Bush's campaign donors.

Don't expect resolution in this administration. This is political payback or a past debt.

Yeah, someone's definitely singing the Money Song... but it's not me. Everytime I see the latest cock-up cooked up by out Commander-in-Chief, I recall that he's certainly not worried about anything: He wrangled a second term out of the masses, and has free-range until 2008, running the country into the ground while lining his own and his backers' pockets the usual way--war. Save democracy! Kill politicians.
