Deputies Say 'Paving Company' Is Scamming the Elderly

This are what you called gipsies - they are nototorious outside of Aiken County - they have their own community.

They are dirt.

Old people are good targets for scam artists because they are cheap and stupid. This is the oldest scam in the world, if these old people don't know any better, it serves them right.

Do the world a favor, and just shoot this "men".

irish travelers? The ones in Murphy Village don't rip off local people, they travel to other states and pull this scam...Never buy anything from the Rebel Tool Company either..

In other words, the county and the state weren't getting their cut. Otherwise, nothing would have been done like in most business scams.

Yes, you are correct they are Irish Travelers and I can promise you that these people arrested are related to those in Murphy Village. They are a family of scam artist that covers several states they work each other states and stay with local family in the area.

People seem to have a way of preying on the elderly knowing they are already just getting by. But what I don't get is why they were writing them checks, when they told the people "they would do it for free" as the article says. Did I miss something?

I had a young man came to my door not long ago said he was getting ready for college and he gets so much for every order he gets for the state newspaper. I told him that I was not interested if I wanted the newspaper I could go on line and order it. When he told me that he takes "credit cards" also I told him to leave. Well after a few choice words. Not a chance I would give my credit card number to some young boy selling something at my door.

The gypsies do prey locally. They always do around Christmas and Easter especially because they want to be close to home.

.....you got that right i dont live to far from them and they r good at that love to go to older peoples house they go all over the place and do shity work....

im not saying anything about older people but that what these people work on cause they think they can get there money easy let them come to my house see how far they get ....

Travelers are in other states also. These came here from Missouri and those in Aiken go to other states. Less easy to track that way I suppose.

Deputies say the men would approach victims--often the elderly--saying they had a load left of pavement, and they would pave their driveway for a "fee."
