In pursuit of an Eagle Scout badge, Kevin Anderson, 17, has toiled for more than 200 hours hours over several weeks to clear a walking path in an east Allentown park.

Little did the do-gooder know that his altruistic act would put him in the cross hairs of the city's largest municipal union.

Nick Balzano, president of the local Service Employees International Union, told Allentown City Council Tuesday that the union is considering filing a grievance against the city for allowing Anderson to clear a 1,000-foot walking and biking path at Kimmets Lock Park.

"We'll be looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails," Balzano told the council.

Balzano said Saturday he isn't targeting Boy Scouts. But given the city's decision in July to lay off 39 SEIU members, Balzano said "there's to be no volunteers." No one except union members may pick up a hoe or shovel, plant a flower or clear a walking path.

Balzano said Saturday the union is still looking into the matter and might cut the city a break.

"We are probably going to let this one go," Balzano said .

Many unions cut their own throats, amazes me that the union leadership and membership has not wised up yet.

Part of the eagle scout's project is to comply with all rules and regulations where the project is being done.

Just thought I would point that out.

Update, Union head resigns.

http://www.mcall.com/news/all-a1_5scout.70919...

Three days of taking body blows nationally from conservative pundits, a rebuke from the Lehigh Valley's congressman and even a lashing from his own union led Balzano to voluntarily resign his position Thursday as head of the local Service Employees International Union.

Balzano said he and seven other executive officers of the local SEIU stepped down.

How about that Aunnie? Balzano says,
"We'll be looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails," Balzano said, and told council that given the layoffs of 39 union members, no one except union members may pick up a hoe or shovel, plant a flower or clear a walking path."

Just like a freakin socialist/liberal union leader. Lets go after the Boy Scout. Lets not bother with the Socialist/liberal friends we have in Washington who are passing all sorts of nonsense bills and sinking our economy into a hole which is losing more jobs-not getting them back!!!!!

This all started because SEIU is now run by Acorn...acorn is working under them now to "hide" their doings. They want to sue, sue and sue some more to get money for what "was done to them" with the videos. They also are going to sue the gov't to get the monies that have been witheld during the past few months. If they only wait a bit the "stop funding" order for acorn only lasts a few more months after the second time it was OK'd. Next vote they will probably get their 5mil from the gov't back. I tell you, this organization should not be allowed to exist. They have already started to work on the 2012 election. The admin has now made "automatic" registration the norm...not publicized though. Hum, wonder how they register the people as they will not even know they are registered!

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Gemini

Maybe it's pre-Christmas tension but people can turn nasty in the blink of an eye today. This is especially likely if they've got a lot on their plate or they think they're very important, and you may have to treat them with kid gloves if you want to avoid getting sucked into a bad-tempered war of words. Some gentle humor may help to rescue the situation before it descends into acrimony.
