Why would they do that? Shouldn't they keep it as a National Forest?

Thats not insane if you think about it. Most rural counties depend on property tax to pay bills and if the state owns 80% of land in a county that dont leave much for the county to get by on because the state dont pay property tax.

I don't think they should but you know bureaucrats even if we elect them they don't do what we want they just do what will benefit them in DC & the power elite .... Our first screwup was Blunt now we'll have to deal with this.
write to DC and tell them NO 9 or at least not so much of it.

I believe that the Japanese own most of our national forrests now. I know that they own Bamff up in Canada, too. Can anyone confirm this. It may be our only product left to export.

In Missouri at least, it is not allowed for foreign ownership in large tracts of farm land. I am not sure how forested land would relate to that.

I moved to the Ozarks for the forests within them. I intend to live the rest of my life in them. They may have to carry me out.
I have written to both our US senators and requested they look into the matter. The sale of the property they are talking about nationwide may generate $1.7 billion.
Over 21,000 acres are in the Mark Twain Forest statewide. It doesn't look like much, but it could have a very negative impact on those of us already here.

There are 14 million acres of forest in MO. 85% is privately owned, 12% owned by the federal gov't and the remaining 3% by the State. That gives the Feds about 1.7M acres. Thus, selling 21,000 acres is rather small. Lets keep calm until we hear a plan about what parcels are to be sold and who may buy it (local gov't, non-profit, business park, etc.). The fact that the gov't does NOT own most of the forest and the state has not been clear-cut indicates to me that there are some good people in this state.

Still, that land belongs to the people. If the county can't make it on their present revenues, then maybe they should just become part of another county.

The proposed sale of Mark Twain Forest lands in Missouri is an ill-conceived idea. Missouri stands to gain very little from this proposal, but would lose an irreplaceable asset, Other funding sources need to be found - higher taxes, increased user fees, etc. NO portion of the Mark Twain Forest should be sold.

I am not just blaming our president, I'm blaming the whole party. My head is very much outta the sand, I guess it's probably safe to say we also belong over in the Middle East too? So, lets sell off our land, even though the people who stand to proffit from it will NOT be us or our schools, hmmm..who will it be?? Get your head outta the sand. Think about it for a bit. Mull it over, God bless you, you poor poor republican!!!

Daily Horoscope for February 13

Gemini

This is a good time to take stock of your actions and the direction you're going in. Are your efforts getting you anywhere or leading you astray and scattering your energy? If you're putting in the work but not moving forward, you're not on track. The old adage 'cut your coat according to your cloth' is good advice. Be simple and purposeful and don't waste time with things that get no practical results.
