I'M SURE THAT WAL-MART WOULD LOVE TO SEE THAT ONE OF THEIR ASSOCIATES WERE CALLING THE CUSTOMERS WHO PAY YOUR SALARY DUMB A$$ES. SHOW'S HOW THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT WAL MART IN COLUMBIA IS. ALL THE MORE REASON FOR THEM TO CHOOSE RUSSELL SPRINGS.

No Wal-Mart planned for Columbia, Russell Springs or Jamestown KY per the Wal-Mart Construction News Letter.

I'm not so sure a supercenter is the best thing for any community. I think the bigger a retail store gets, the more they lose touch with customers and employees. A smaller more close-knit atmosphere encourages stronger bonds between fellow employees and between employees and customers. Once a particular business gets "too big for it's britches" so-to-speak, everyone goes from valued employee, to just another number in the system. Of course, this is just my opinion.

It seems a smaller close knit atmosphere only results in the customers (In Columbia) having to race to get there before the store closes or wait until it opens or deal with employees that act like they are doing you a favor to locate something that they don't have but should...Would rather drive to Campbellsville anytime than deal with these slackers.

Well, as far as customers having to race to get there, the store hours are clearly posted. It's just a matter of getting off the couch and getting there between open and closing times. As they say, "You snooze, you lose". As for the employees...how would you have them act? They're always nice to me and help me find what I'm looking for. On the other hand, I can't even find anyone in a supercenter to help me locate something without having to walk five miles around the store. The place is so big and there are so many customers, they can't focus on any one customer's needs. But, I do agree with you...I'd rather drive to Campbellsville too just because of the wider selection, just don't care to have a supercenter here in Columbia. Russell Springs can have it.:)

If a Super Center opens either in Russell Springs or Columbia, it would be open 24 hours. Lebanon is getting a SC in 2007 (I think) and it is already staying open 24hrs/day.

I agree with you 100%. I'm so tired of trying to do my shopping at IGA or Payless and can't find half of what is on my list. Shelves are practically bare, many food items are out of date, produce is not fit to eat most of the time. Forget trying to find any variety in food items, all Columbia grocery stores carry is the basics. I love to cook, and I always have to drive to Russell Springs Kroger or Campbellsville to Walmart SC to find what I need. And forget trying to shop in these little mom and pop businesses here in Columbia. They are only open when they feel like it, close before 4:30 pm, and most are closed on Saturdays. Seems they could care less about customer service, and all they carry is a bunch of crap anyway. If a Walmart SC goes in here in Columbia or Russell Springs, I will gladly take all of my business there. I don't need a WM employee to lead me by the hand around the store, I'm just thankful to be able to find the products I need!

Dear 3rd Option, I must admit, I was referring to only a couple of the employees and I must send out an apology to the rest...Now as for if you snooze you lose, I truly wish I had that option-snoozing. I work at least 10 hours every day and don't see much of my couch. I am sure you don't care to have a Supercenter in Columbia-That might mean that several more people in our community could get jobs and the rest of us could buy some meat and produce that is not rotten.

i heard from a walmart employee that the new one will be on the new 61 bypass in columbia. By the on and off ramps said the company did not want the hassel of having to go through russell springs because of k-mart that they would stick to columbia because it had no big stores for competion and would make more money they said the distribution center had spent much time on this trying to make a logical conclusion, but in columbia they figured to make twice as much money and twice as many jobs.

(1.) No apology necessary. lol (2.) I work at the Columbia Wal-Mart and I don't see a Supercenter surviving in this town. They can't even get any people hired now, much less getting 150-200 more people hired to run a Supercenter. I don't think there are that many people wanting to work, at least not for Wal-Mart. Everytime someone does apply for a job and gets hired, they work maybe a couple of days then quit. And with current gas prices at an all-time high, no one is going to drive several miles back and forth from out of town to work for $6.00/hour at a Columbia Supercenter . I would be amazed to see enough people hired to run a Wal-mart Supercenter in this town.
I understand your point of view on this particular issue, I just don't have much faith that it will succeed.:)

Virgo

The world is your oyster. There isn't anyone you're afraid to talk to or any situation you're afraid to place yourself in. The word 'extrovert' must have been coined just to describe you. You're the master of time at the moment, cutting through red tape and getting right to the heart of the matter. If you use the right words, you can make anyone see your point of view, even if they don't agree.
