Does anyone know when (or if) the Circle R is supposed to reopen? What kinds of food will be served? Any news??

I think they will open on Tuesday. Thank goodness we'll have something different.

It will never open because it has been torn down, and a fish place has been built, will open soon.

Well, you just keep on waiting for the "fish place" to open. Everyone else will go to Circle R when it opens.

As I understood it was going to be a sea food place, maybe it is going to have regular home cooked food, I hope your right, that would be great, we sure could use something besides the hamburger joints.

I agree with "oh me." There will never be another "CIRCLE R." Mike Stevens knows that. He's just cashing in on the name, because with out the name, "CIRCLE R," he might not get very far in that kind of business.

I, too, believe it's going to be another Sea Food place. It looks more like a Long John Silver's, than a family type of place.

The menu looks like it's going to have all kinds of food, and I asked a construction worker the other day and he said it opens tomorrow (Tuesday).

It's a shame someone can't open a business without someone making an ugly comment. And you wonder why Columbia never grows.

Honestly, I think Mike Steven's new restaurant would do fine with or without the name "Circle R", as long as the food and service is good. I always get excellent service at Prescription Shop, so I wouldn't expect anything else from one of his businesses!

I'm looking forward to a new place to eat in this town!

Maybe it's not opening tomorrow?

2009-06-08 - 712 Russell RD, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
The Menus are ready, the hours are set, and the Circle R is almost ready to open. The manager, Linda Johnson, said today that the official opening is now likely one week off. But already diners who have received invitations as private guests give the restaurant high marks in one area of concern: maintenance of the J.D. Harper tradition, including serving Penn's Country ham, Uncle Charlie's tenderloin, serving fried catfish the way Jethro did, and serving dinners with a wide selection of vegetables sides, and having an attentive wait staff. Along with it, there are new options: Outside dining, drive through service, and offering seating with more varieties of views than before. The hours on the menu will be from 6:00am to 9:00pmCT, seven days a week. Breakfasts similar to the old Circle R will also be offered.

Again, many thanks for all the responses.

It's hard to believe the original Circle R opened over 50 years ago -- June 26, 1956 to be exact.

Some of the selections from the original 1956 menu: The double-decker Kingburger; the triple-decker Hill-Billy Bacon and Tomato sandwich; Hot Pups (french fried hot dogs); Richardson's Root Beer; and, of course, those incredible malts and milkshakes we old-timers remember so well.

Does anyone remember who the carhops were?

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Libra

Someone is convinced they're in the right under the Lunar Eclipse, and they don't care how they get their point across. If there's trouble in your neighborhood, get it sorted out by putting your thoughts down in a blog, or on paper. Don't let anyone, even siblings, treat you like this, even if you balk at standing your ground under this moody cloud. Travel plans may be upset, and spiritual pursuits, and dealings with foreigners or people of other cultures is subject to pressure too.
