<quoted text>you forgot all the years the one at the bottom of doug hill,(206) was in business, the only people hurting is the people of adair co. were losing all of the tax revenue. Is it the law enforcement, that is buying the county votes? Or is it the religious people keeping this county dry?

Has anyone here heard of the "trickle down" method? Corruption starts at the top then trickles down to lower officials. Everyone doesn't have to be corrupt, just the "right ones" to influence the non-corrupt.

If you are talking about the bootleggers, then why are they STILL in business right now?? They may have been busted that many times in the last little bit, but it looks like it's not helping shut them down.

<quoted text> You must not read the paper or listen to the news on the radio. The sheriff has arrested Larry Smith many times. Confiscated his liquor and his refrigerators, trucks and anything else connected to this business.Get your facts straight before you post false info.I think you just want to run the whole county down. WE are no different from any other county.Drugs and liquor will always be a problem no matter where you live.
no, every county is not like adair. some countys have law officers and judges that do not take pay off or have friends they let go. hell, they pay them a $100 a day to set in jail tax free. not bad. if i lose my job, i am going there and try to get on. at least you will never lose your job. they get raided and in ten mins. i could be back to work.....

I was born and raised in columbia, i live in the city now and let me just say this and i will never be in this forum again. Columbia Ky, is at least 10-15 yrs behind larger cities in everything from A-Z i don't care what it is so i am ashamed to tell anyone where i live now, where i am from, even the cities just 50 miles away is more civil than that ses pool you all call home, so live in it and deal with it and i even wish you all luck with it, you can have it.. and as far as the bootlegging if you all dont have the balls or the sense to vote it wet then you deserve everything you all get..

the sheriffs office in this town is a joke when it comes to serving any warrants at all...not serving a warrant that they have had for 3 months is ridiculous!

just a thought wrote:
<quoted text>i realize that the bootleggers make money or they wouldn't stay in business but it's hard to beleive they could make enough to pay the sheriff and his deputies and each state trooper without at least one honest one in the bunch doing something about it. that a law official would risk his job or reputation for a few dollars just doesn't seem like the truth. it would probably be a substantial amount and i don't think even the bootleggers could afford that much. IF and i do say IF, anyone gets a brown envelope, looks like it would be someone higher up such as a judge that always lets them off easy and they are able to be back in business in a few hours. i guess police officers do get tired of arresting them knowing that it was all for nothing. and if any bootleggers are reading this, the only thing bad thing i can say is some of you sell to teenagers so please stop doing this. i know they can still find a way to get it, just like buying cigts. buts lets make it as hard for them to get it as we can and not sell it to them when you know they are underage. i guess this brings up a whole new topic.
You need to rethink what your basing your belief on if you think a bootlegger couldn't buy off and stay in business! Let me say up front, I do NOT know anything that's going on with our current police dept. or officials. They may all be upstanding citizens for all I know. With that said, I can promise you these bootleggers make way plenty enough to make pay-offs. I KNOW this because I had a relative some years back who bootlegged in a nearby county. I was at the home often and saw with my own eyes a sheriff pull in to pick up his pay off. I saw him at times with another officer with him. I heard some of the talks they had together. One of my favorite was where the cop was telling my relative that hey, it's time, we just have to make a raid because we got people breathing down our backs. So the raid was planned, sometimes they'd get nothing, other times they'd find a little something. And once in a long long while they'd actually do a complete surprise raid, take everything (usually around election time) and tell my relative they had no time to notify him. Right! My relative's payoffs actually helped these people live quite well. Keep in mind they are not paying taxes or claiming these monies. You people keep blaming the judge who in my opinion is least at fault. Although, my relative did claim to have paid for more houses than he cared to admit. And I heard some of the wheeling and dealing going on with my own ears. Anyway, that was several years ago. But my point is, that if it was done then, then I can certainly believe it "might" be done now. And it's not just people who seem bad that do it. I mean, this one officer was oh so well respected & even I thought very highly of him until I actually saw this stuff with my own eyes. You have to remember, it's extremely difficult (especially in hard times) to say NO to a big ole wad of cash money when all you have to do for it is simply walk away. Besides, they still get to bust the guy down the road. I personally like to believe that somewhere out there, maybe there are a couple of truly good people with a keen sense of right from wrong, who would never consider doing something such as accepting cash money. That's certainly possible and I hope Adair Co., is full of these good guys. But the one thing I know is, people can fool you as to who they truly are & since I've seen this kind of thing up close and personal, although I hope it doesn't exist, I do believe the chances of it existing today are pretty high. If you don't believe anything like what I described above can happen here, then ask yourself why we still have bootleggers & drug dealers here (as well as all the surrounding counties).

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Libra

Someone is convinced they're in the right under the Lunar Eclipse, and they don't care how they get their point across. If there's trouble in your neighborhood, get it sorted out by putting your thoughts down in a blog, or on paper. Don't let anyone, even siblings, treat you like this, even if you balk at standing your ground under this moody cloud. Travel plans may be upset, and spiritual pursuits, and dealings with foreigners or people of other cultures is subject to pressure too.
