This is how good our law officials are in Adair County. How long has the bootleggers in White City been in business? 20 years? Longer? I don't really know but there must be some kind of under the table dealings with the law officials in Columbia for the bootlegger to be still in business all these years. For people that don't know where White City is in Columbia, it is about, oh, 2 miles or less from the city courthouse. Truth be told, I am not as worried about the bootleggers as the drug problem in the county. It's just that if some people in the city are getting under the table money to keep the bootleggers open, then is it too much of a stretch to think they are receiving some from drug sellers? Just a thought from someone who lives in Columbia and cares.

J.B. who are you Josh Brockman?? Jerry Smith, I think is the bootleggers' name has been in business for a very very long time. Some of our city and county officials can be seen pulling up to the door on certain days. I'm not a drinker and I'll never be one but I have took people to the bootlegger before. All the city police and the sheriff's department knows what goes on there, but you never hear of them getting busted so maybe one hand does wash the other.

You must not read the paper or listen to the news on the radio. The sheriff has arrested Larry Smith many times. Confiscated his liquor and his refrigerators, trucks and anything else connected to this business.Get your facts straight before you post false info.I think you just want to run the whole county down. WE are no different from any other county.Drugs and liquor will always be a problem no matter where you live.

If the Sheriff really wanted him shut down, he could really do it. Remember, he has been in business for a very long time. Just because we have drug and liquor problems like other towns doesn't mean we have to accept it. Attitudes like that will never get the problem out of our community.

Why would you blame anybody but the judge who sets him free time after time.

Should we vote the city wet?

What we need to do is to vote people into office who we think will be hard on the drug pushers and stop bootlegging.

OH please?! How can anyone stop the bootlegging and the drug pushing when the judge sets them all free. Seems to me you all are pointing fingers in the wrong place. Your current law enforcement does their job. But, they can only take it so far.

I think we should get the judge out of his spot and elect a new one. He is the problem. When he gets paid for doing dirty work there is a problem. He does whatever some people in this town tells him to do. It's all about who you know and how much money you have. The cops aren't the dirty ones

They whole system probably needs a overhaul. We need to vote people into office that will make a difference, but then you know how cadidates promise stuff and forget them once elected. By the way which judge are you talking about 'whoever'?

Let's make a change and vote a woman into office for Judge like Judy Vance. Oh yeah, ain't Larry Smith the radio announcer on WHVE 92.7 The Wave? lol.

Diamond you have people in office that try to make a difference but there not as high up in the ranks in this community as you may think.

Sounds like maybe we have alot of puppets for hire to the high up rank folks in the community trying to control or gain more for them selves a bigger piece of the pie.

We need a way to show how the Sheriff, Judge, or whoever is allowing bootlegging to go on in the county. The guy from White City (Larry Smith) has been arrested many times. I may be wrong on this but I think he has been arrested at least once a year for the past six or more years for bootlegging. That number of arrests and him not being locked up for a very long time shows that the judge is not doing something right. As far as the drug dealings in the county, it does seem like Steve Cheatham is doing a better job than Ralph Curry, but more can be done. Didn't Paul Harvey once say on the radio that Columbia was a drug capitol or something like that? I really hope we are not seen by other people like that?

Not just the elected officials. They know that if they shut that bootlegger down for good that they will all be out of office. Because the majority in the community wants the bootlegger to be up and running. That is the big picture. We cause our elected officials to have to make corrupt decisions. We feed the corruption. The majority doesn't seem to want the town to be wet, especially the preachers. So, the majority chooses to keep the bootleggers running. Why do you think our current judge has gotten re-elected time after time? He knows what he has to do to keep the majority happy, even though it isn't something that is talked about publicly. The community is mostly to blame. Personally, I think there are bigger fish to fry than the bootleggers in this community and most others feel that way too.
