Disgraced pastor Haggard: I was abused as child

I too was abused as a child (I am female). Only once, by my half-brother. I never told my mother, because even though I was very young (8), I knew I didn't want to hurt her. I instinctively knew that my brother was 'sick' and what he did was wrong. He died in an accident when I was 17, and I went on with my life, marrying and having 2 children. Never once in the past 48 years, since the abuse, did I even think about abusing a child...never. Those who use what happened in their past as an excuse to do evil are evil themselves.

Haggard has always been in it for the money, just like Benny Henn and Oral Roberts. They will pay one day for the damage they have done to others and their faith.

I also was abused (physically) as a child! I agree wholeheartedly with your last sentence!

He has been gay his whole life and he finally got caught. He may have been molested as a child but I think he is just using that as an excuse for what he was doing.

And this is the same S.O.B. that made weekly telephone calls to President Bush in order to push through hot button evangelical policy issues. The shocking thing about this whole affair to me is not that Haggard represents yet another bible thumping evangelical gone astray, but that he and others in his circle (ie: James Dobson, Jerry Falwell, etc.) who spew hatred and bigotry as often as they pretend to preach salvation and redemption, have had such unrestricted access to the President of the United States.

As a couple of the posters have already pointed out, a lot of people were abused as children, but do not attempt to use that fact as a reason for their behavior. Chances are that Haggard knew very early on that he was gay but was unable to accept that fact. Haggard needs to come clean and accept the fact that he's gay, always has been, and always will be. He can never really be happy until he admits this to himself. The child abuse story is simply an excuse, and not a very good one.

How many "private" visits did Jeff Gannon/Guckert have with "W"? He visited "W" in the White House over 200 times. Did he charge his going rate of $200 per hour as a male prostitute? Did Rove pay and vett him?

Why is it that these preachers, politicians and the like make excuses for their behavior? Why can they NOT accept the fact that they did it---No excuses--Hell-fire, man up to what you did.

If my kids do something wrong, they come and tell me so I won't find out second hand. I have to give them credit on that. So why in the hell can't grown folks admit their mistakes without the excuses? Kids will tell ya straight up why they did something---even if it makes little sense, but at least they are up front with ya.(most of the time) lol

OH please. I was abused (physically, not sexually) as a child. So what! I don't go around beating people up because my father did the same to me. I have a mind of my own, and i control what I do, no one else.
