I would certainly welcome Tommy to the Council. He's a good man and would do his best for the Town.

He will be great! He's a good guy, cares about the town, and has always been a positive proponent!(and I'm not being a smartass)

Retired Alexandria Fire Department and after 30 years as a firefighter and Lieutenant for 5 years, he became a fire inspector serving in the Alexandria Code of Enforcement for a total of 35 years service to the City. Tommy and Joan retired to Colonial Beach where he is serving as Commander of the American Legion and as a Trustee for the Eagle’s Organization.
I think he was on the CB Tourism council...not sure what else he has done but he is active in town.

So what are his qualifications for Council? Why was he selected by Council over the 3 other applicants?

Question wrote: So what are his qualifications for Council? Why was he selected by Council over the 3 other applicants? Because he is a team player. And he gives a good report on how many quarters he gives out each month to the public for the parking meters.

Tommy is the best out of four because he has done the most for the Town and his community both in Alexandria and CB. Just because you apply for something doesn't mean you are the right person. This Town has to quit throwing anybody with a pulse into the political arena. Persons who have proved their ability to lead, volunteer and spend thankless hours doing what others don't want are the people who should be in these positions. Thanks Tommy and the rest of the Council Members...those who actually care and spend the time necessary to represent the Town in a positive way. Please help this Town prosper and grow into a world class community.

From my view, you just described all four candidates. Will Tommy be only a team player; does he have ideas of his own?

Since we didn't have the opportunity to ask candidates questions, do to this being an appointment, it is good to know positions of our representatives.

The Council asks the same questions every time. What is your position on : the schools, taxes, revitalization, and the Mayors famous question, would you entice a big hotel chain to come build a big mammoth hotel on the Boardwalk to block the view? A few of the members, particularly the Mayor spend ten minutes telling each applicant what they want done. The smart ones answer what the council wants to hear! It's a no brainer getting on Council. Can't wait to see what the papers have to say about him.

The ones that have been going to meetings every month and speaking up, the Council already know how they feel on the issues. There would be no point in speaking any differently than how they really believe, and that is called lying.

New councilman Edwards came through tonight as an independent thinker when he voted NAY on the lands issue. He was the only negative vote on council to vote against selling the waterfront properties along Monroe Bay behind several homes. His vote incensed Mr. Seeber, and the matter is deferred until March, when all council members will be present. Mr. Curtin was not present at this evening's meeting due to a business trip to California.

Appears the reason for Edwards voting no was he was not up to date on the background. Maybe if the Mayor would have asked for discussion after the motion and 2nd answers could have been provided. Now another add for meeting need to be published, cost factor for adds, etc. Hopefully this will be a wake up that explainations don't hurt.

If one is not "up to date" he should decline to vote not vote against. In addition, he should have familiarized himself with the background prior to the meeting. All information is available to all council members. And third, if he is in fact against the sale of town property, he lied during his interview.

It made no difference--the issues were deferred until March. I was impressed with the way he handled himself, for what its worth. Were you there at his interview and at the Council meeting?
