My Old School ....bar

I was born and raised in Collinsville but live in missouri now...i am working on some research for an up coming videography of Collinsville...so if anyone remembers that bar...leave info and a story please and also, did anyone know the Klaas family they have/had been there for years...thanks to all!

opps the bar was called My Old School off Vandilia Street

.. I remember that bar .. used to be the last stop on a lot of nights hanging out with the guys .. I think it closed in the late 80's .. anyways, it's an empty lot next to the laundromat .. I think a mini-mall is there now ...... I remember the "upside down margarita's" ... there was head rest on the end of the bar .. you would put your head there, leaning backwards and your face looking at the ceiling .. the bartender would pour all the mixings in your mouth .. you would raise your head and swish it around and swallow it .. a lot of fun .. I also remember a story where an off duty cop had his weapon drop outta his coat and it went off .. luckily, no one was hit .... the bar was basically a "meat market" .. a DJ and dance floor on the upper level with the big bar on the lower level ..... that's what I remember ...

thank you scarecrow for your comment, sounds like it was a fun place to hang out. by the time i was old enough to go to the place it was already gone. i do have some memory of the off duty cop story, my dad was a collinsville cop at the time. i do remember he had to go to court to testify about something that happened up there, i guess that was it. i bet you remember collinsville park to, that was a big hang out until it burnt down. my dad use to check i.d.'s up there as well. thanks again!

.. Collinsville Park .. yes I went there too .. in fact .. I met my future "ex" wife there back in 1979 .. the building was big .. and old .. biggest dance floor I ever saw .. had some good times there .. from what I can remember ;).... it burned down in the early 80's and there are apartments there ... and irony of ironies ... when me and my wife were engaged .. we lived at the Collinsville Park apartments for about a year

yeah, lenny chambers, was the cop, he was dancing, his gun fell & shot a hole in the mirror. what fun !!!! going to collinsville park ballroom to see mamas pride was great !!!!

thanks kdd for your post, the lenny chambers name sounds like it rings a bell i will ask my mom about the name. i wish i was old enough to have visited these places. by the time i was old enough i had granny's rocker to hang out at, i think that place is gone to. thanks again.

They tore Granny's Rocker down and put a Lowes there. Boy that place brings back some memories.
I knew the Rollins brothers that owned and played there. They called the band Baywolf. Geee, I'm swimming in memories, guess I didn't burn too many cells.

Wow kobi thanks for the info, i figured granny's was long gone to...i think i remember Baywolf. The last time i was in that place was for my bachloret party. Now come to think of it..i was still getting hit on the last night i was there..ha ha. I am swimmin with ya now in that pool of memories kobi.

What a time. My old school. It was real. It was alive! It was a fantasy and it was real. Tell me where a place is like this near Collinsville or St. Louis?

I used to got to My Old School and Collinsville Park. Sunday nights were the big nights at both places. We would start at the Park and finish up after midnight at MOS. MOS, at one time, was "private". You had to have a membership card to get in. I think this may have had to do with the fact it could stay open later this way. Of course, membership cards were given out to anyone that asked for one. Had many, many good times at both of these places.

I used to go to My Old School quite a bit, and Granny's too, Someone mentioned Baywolf in a previous post and I thought a note of interest might be that the blond girl that used to sing with them is now a big country star...Gretchen Wilson....A couple of the Rollins boys are in her band now, though nowhere near here.

The Grainery became FAT CATS-where Quick Trip is now.
Grannys Rocker was in the complex by the bowling alley-where Lowes is now.
Another "incident" at My Old School was the shooting death (I think by a security guard) of Bobby Edwards, of Marine.

I remember my old school:} lots of great times there.

Glad to hear people remember My Old School...my parents owned it and I remember going there and having kiddy cocktails...during the day of course. We have photo albums of the night life, looked like fun! It was torn down in 1986 to those who were wondering..

Wednesday night $25 beer (plastic cup) those were the good ole days..I remember Tim Spagna was a bartender at the lower bar he would always throw change in back of the mirror behind the bar..I was there the night the gun went off we were feeling to good to care..some of us went to Denny's after ward to eat breakfeast..Alot of good memories and the was Fletcher's also that was fun for awhile..
