All this means is that the company agreed to take the cards as a sign of employee's desire to form a union instead of holding an election. According to the union most of the employees signed union authorization cards but no one will ever know if employees were coereced or threatened in to signing them. At least with a scret ballot election, everyone votes in privacy and no one knows who voted how.

Now the company and union have to negoitiate a contract which will likely take years. During that time all salary increases are frozen (by law). THe company is under no obligation to do anything more then to neogitate in "good faith." Good faith means different things to different people. It sounds like this is a bad company already. Sounds like the employees will still get screwed by the company and pay the union for the priviledge. Tennessee has the 2nd lowest number of unionzed employeess in the US while we rank in the top 20 in salaries compared to living costs. As a native, makes me proud of the fact that we generally do preety good thinking for oursevles. Bottom line, love GM, love our northern transplants, but your union is getting really old!! It's best thinking has a number of old people running the register at Home Depot.
