A former resident of Cold Spring Harbor that may have moved to a new address outside of the fire district line is one thing; this volunteer has community ties and will probably maintain his commitment of seving the communiy. What motivation does an outsider who has never lived in Cold Spring Harbor have ?

They are buffs and if the equipment and perks at CSH FD are better than surrounding FDs, they will do it. Follow the money, follow the money. Long Island's volunteer fire and EMS system........Full time cost, with part time performance.

Long Island is always compared demographically against Fairfax County VA in terms of size, density population, per capita income etc. Fairfax residents pay less in taxes than Long Islanders, have a paid PROFESSIONAL fire and EMS system and their FF's/EMS personnel make more than FDNY. When you eliminate the district managers, fire chiefs with take home SUV's and unlimited gas cards to commute to NYC, fire commissioners conventions, fire chief's conventions, 100K installation dinners, custom one of a kind spec'd pieces of apparatus, gold leaf on the trucks, bolling alleys, pools, fully stocked bars and nautilus gyms AND Personal trainers you will see that Long Islanders are being ripped off and deserve better for their tax dollars. Trust me when I tell you that the lines to be a FF or EMT on Long Island would be out the door for half of the price of what NYC pays it's personnel. The difference is there wouldn't be a need for the waste and duplicative services every 3-5 miles as there is now. Spend the money on personnel and not taj majals, conventions, trips, booze and take home cars. We might actually get a class A pumper or an ambulance on scene in less than 15 minutes like it takes now. BTW brain death when you are in cardiac arrest occurs in 3-4 minutes, so by the time they show up it is too late. That and 15 minutes of a working structure fire guarantees there won't be much left salvagable other than the foundation.

The simple reason they need the "out of town" vollies is that the people of Cold Spring Harbor are rich, fat, lazy, assholeswho want everyone else to do the dirty hard work of firefighting! This is not new, rich towns all over L.I. have these same people, can't be bothered to protect their towns and want someone else to do it! Typical!

GO THERE....since you are a disgruntled Jake. And don't let the door hit you in the A**. Real LI'ers are responding to the firehouse to help their communities.

Yeaahh right, well your ISP says St. Petersberg FL. So are you retired down to FL b/c you couldn't afford it up here? Did you flee Long Island to take a paid FF/EMS job down in FL?

If the gravy train districts didn't kill the goose that laid the golden eggs w/ the drinking club perks of being a vollie, there would be plenty of decent paying paid jobs up here so buffs who couldn't get onto FDNY would ba able to stay on LI and contribute to the economy, not have to resort to fleeing to FL like you have done after collecting your pension from being a laborer w/ the town or a hack w/ the Suffolk Water Authority.
