The torpedo could be placed in the county headquarters as a reminder of what Suozzi has done to his tax paying citizens.

He'd just be out golfing with Slick Willie, but I agree with the sentiment...

The U.S. Submarine Force held the line against the Imperial Japanese Navy in the dark days right after Pearl Harbor. They did indeed inflict an inordinate amount of damage to the enemy. To say that i have the utmost respect and praise for these brave men is an understatement.I know that they must think constantly of their shipmates from those lost 52 Submarines who are on Eternal Patrol.

Aim the torpedo at Nassau Coliseum and blow that dump off the map.

On a more serious note, God Bless Our Troops

I'd get a real kick out of seeing it go off during the ceremony. Better late than never.

I'm surprised (but happy) to read about this.

Just this week I was upstate NY and saw an old WWI or WWII cannon standing as a monument in a public square and told the people I was with that I don't see that anymore because the liberals HATE weapons and any dedication such as this is considered fascist to the liberal left-wing Democrats. These weapons and the men that manned them kept us free. Perhaps that's the very reason that they hate them: Socialists don't like freedom.

Actually it's the school taxes (NOT the county) that's to blame for our high property taxes. Place that torpedo at the teacher's union.

The biggest blunder of World War II was during the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Japanese didn't bomb the dry docks, didn't bomb the fuel storage tanks, and didn't bomb the submarines ties up nice & neatly at pier-side. "A one-eyed monkey hanging from a 10-cent balloon can blow them all to hell with one hand-grenade" was said about the airplanes parked at the airfields around Oahu, but the same could've been said about our ships & submarines. God bless all our sailors & troops! EXECUTE UNRESTRICTED SUBMARINE WARFARE AGAINST THE EMPIRE OF JAPAN! GO NAVY!!

I met some of these veterans at the annual Forest Hills Memorial Day parade, where they bring a float containing a model of a WW 2 sub and torpedo (maybe the same one to be placed at this memorial?). They couldn't have been any nicer to my son and I, and gladly answered everyone's questions. They are true heroes, as are all members of the "Greatest Generation" who served. Sadly, they are leaving us in increasing numbers. Soon, this memorial and others like it will be all that's left to remind us of their exploits in the Second World War. It'll be up to us to remember what they accomplished, and pass that knowledge along to future generations, so their sacrifices will always be remembered by this nation.

Excellent post by Mr Stretch. The Japanese did indeed neglect to target those facilities(which doomed them)The person who devised tactics to deal with the enemy was Commander Charles Lockwood who was the right person at the time.Look him up on Google or Wikipedia.GO NAVY!!

Don't you mean Admiral Lockwood, who was in charge of Pacific Fleet submarines (COMSUBPAC) under Nimitz? Let's give him all the credit (and rank) he deserves!

According to my sources he was promoted to Rear Admiral in 1942 then to Vice Admiral. It did not say what rank he was in December 1941.No matter,he got the job done."Hunt 'em,find 'em,sink 'em."
