Parents rally against mandated vaccines

I was upset when my daughter had to get the new chickenpox vaccine. I always thought of chickenpox as a "right of passage" of childhood. I always thought it built up antibodies in your system and you would never get it again. I always have it in the back of my mind that her body might not be able to fight something else off in the future because the chicken pox immunization stopped her from building her OWN immunity. It also makes you wonder just how many years they have designated to testing this. What if she is protected NOW...but ends up getting chicken pox as an adult because they didn't research it enough? It would be far more hazardous for an adult than if one were a child.

I was so upset I wasn't able to attend this rally. I was glad the news was there. I am convinced a particular vaccine assisted in the diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes for my daughter. Again, so glad they had this rally. It should be the parent's choice, not any schools, government, medical community, etc..

the same folks who want the right to opt OUT of a public issue that affects us all should think again.

They are lying. This bill will take away exemptions(Religious,Medical)I t is buried in the bill.There are also other changes that are different.This is why they are fast tracking the bill.

I would stear clear of any vaccine that the govt wants to impose on you. They can't even give us Safe tomatoes or dogfood....don't trust them with Vaccines!!

I pray that the parents' voices were heard loud and clear by the health officials and by the Assembly members. The people of NY are the ones who vote the Assembly members into office, not Big Pharma. I hope the elected officials remember this important fact when they make their decision to quash A10942, which takes away parental rights to determine if some of the newer vaccines are right for their children (like Guardasil and Rotateq).

I'm holding off my son from a couple of the more dangerous vaccines until he is 2 years old. The ones he is getting, I'm forcing the doctor to space them out more. It is dangerous to scramble a young brain with that many vaccines all at once. I think we need to be vaccinated but I don't agree with the schedule they spell out. All the studies the CDC cites are paid for by big pharma. Sorry but I don't trust them. I'm worried about autism for my son.

I suggest waiting until at least 2 years old. 80% of brain development happens in the first 18 months of life from what I'm told.

I find it troubling that we've gone from a handful of shots 10 years ago to over 18 shots in the first couple of years of life. Who's suggesting all these shots? Big pharma by way of the CDC. When you challenge this, people say it's for the common good of society.

John is correct and one of my parents was affected by the SV40. I have known about this for a couple of years now. Right on John!!!

I think the government is going overboard as well,with the vaccines.But my parents had the polio vaccine when it was available,and their friend from school,who did not recive it,ended
up with polio,and to this day is in a wheelchair.
But I do think parents should have the right to say no,if they don't want their child loaded up with shots.I also had my childs shots spaced out.
My pediatrician was more than happy to do just that.

I for one would not want my children in school with children who have not been vaccinated against these horrible childhood illnesses. I agree that chickenpox was kind of a right of passage when we were growing up, but why put your kids through something like that if they don't have to. Having the vaccine protects them, so why not? I understand parents being concerned about what goes into a childs body, but come one, these things are closely monitored. As for the tomatoes and dog food....how do you propose them test all of that????

Closely monitored? Are you serious? It's the gov't we're talking about. They closely monitor when you pay your taxes. It end there. They closely monitored Hurrican Katrina, the situation in Iraq, energy prices, lead paint in toys, etc.

You can't honestly believe they care about your kids? The CDC is in bed with big pharma and they care about ROI to their shareholders.

It's telling that the dept of health would not speak on this issue. The last sentence the reported says is something about the new bill changes nothing, they already recommend what the CDC recommends. That is simply not true. The bill would mandate many new vaccines in the state of NY, including HPV, which has already caused thousands of adverse reactions and many deaths.

We need everyone to call their reps in Congress and ask them to pass the bill that would fund a study of vaccinated vs. never-vaccinated, so parents can finally weigh the obvious benefits of vaccination with the risks. There has NEVER been a safety study with a clean control group. We, the parents, are desperate for this unbiased information. My son lost language, regressed and became autistic and ADHD after his kindergarten round of shots....what if, what if all the language deficits, delays, ADD, ADHD and Aspergers diagnosed in K and 1st grade are the result of vaccine injury sustatined at the Kindergarten round of shots...what if???? We must fund this study and find out before the good intention of saving every life destroys the neurological function of an entire generation of children!!! When the government is demanding that you vaccinate your child against non-life threatening diseases, something is VERY wrong.

What about the kids they will expose to disease by not vaccinating??!! That's not fair either. My kid has a right to be safe and healthy.

As somebody already mentioned, this bill would have the effect of making NY the first state to mandate the HPV vaccine for young girls without offering a philosophical exemption.

They know the public reaction would be horrible to such an issue if presented in the open so they've tried to bury it in the bill

Beth, if you are afraid of any disease, then please vaccinate your children and take the imperfect and limited protection it offers. But also have some respect for those of us who do not want to sign our children up for life-long booster shots, especially for diseases like chicken pox. It was one thing in the 60's and 70's when doctors believed that one shot gave you life-long immunity. Now that we know that isn't the case (30% of women vaccinated in the post measles era reach childbearing age without any antibodies)...we have to look at the real long-term consequences. It isn't as black and white as getting rid of VPD in children anymore. Which is why we desperately need a long term study with a clean control group.

In response to your post I ask one question. Who is paying for the out of pocket medical expenses due to a child with vaccine induced autism????

These parents who just vaccinate their kids without looking into it any further are like mainstream puppets for the government. That's all they are. Sorry if it's some of you on this forum, but I was one of them too until my precious daughter was never the same again after th COMVAX vaccine. Oh and that was, for some reason, her THIRD one within 1 year of life. So you do the math.

It is a parents right to use the best judgment for his/her child. It is not the responsibility of the government to dictate to us what we have to do. A parent should not end up in jail because they believe that a certain medical procedure is not beneficial to their child. Let's keep big government and Big Business out of our homes. Lets take back our homes and our rights. Don't give up the freedom of the great US of A for a lie.
