I went through this same crap with a paving contractor last year. The company I contracted to do the job was a company in good standing, having done work for the City of Deerfield and other citys and large contractors in Souht Florida. But the hidden part of the company was a major scam and totaly illegal not approved to do the work let alone pick thier nose or ass for that matter. Broward County Code Enforcement and a gentlman by the name of Roy took EXCELLENT!!!! care of me in this matter. Do not let these CHEATING NO GOOD ASSHOLE win, take your case to the people in power and let them work with you and for you

As long as each individual county can issue lic. for contracting this problem will exist. You can buy a lic. in Dade Co. and most don't bother to do that.

Once a crook always a crook and should be delt with accordingly. Has he paid his income tax on money he retained. He bought an expenslive home. Internal revenue should look into his dealings. He might not be a crook, just looks like it.

This guy needs an attitude adjusyment.

A contracting licens is every bit as good as a drivers license. You can buy them or you can ignore them. Just because you have one doen't mean you are competent to do the work.

With computers systems I'm sure the counties can cross reference contractors and some one on probation.
I'm sure the counties share some responsiblity for what is happening with the contractors.

IT IS SAD HOW SOME CONTRACTORS DO WORK LIKE THIS. WE HAVE BEEN IN BUSINESS SINCE 1980, AND HAVE NEVER HAD A COMPLAINT FILED AGAINST US.

WE ARE ROOFING CONTRACTORS, AND WE SPECIALIZE IN METAL ROOFING, AND AS LONG AS WE HAVE BEEN IN BUSINESS, THERE HAVE BEEN COMPANIES COME AND GO JUST LIKE THIS.

REMEMBER DADE COUNTY JUST HAD 200 PLUS ILLEGALLY LICENSED CONTRACTORS CLOSED DOWN, AND AS FAR AS I KNOW NONE OF THE SCUMBAGS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED.

MAYBE IT IS OK TO JUST BUY YOUR LICENSE, AND NOT QULAIFY FOR IT, BUT THESE PEOPLE ALSO DESERVE PRISON TIME

The problem is in the LLC they are allowed to create. The system is set up in their favor to avoid liability. The root of the corruption is in the way the State allows these crooks to open and close and burn the people.

Check out the public access case search of the Broward Clerk of the Courts web site:

http://www.clerk-17th-flcourts.org/bccoc2/Def... ?

Once there do a search using the name Bidlofsky. There are 17 listings for this guy (Jerry, Gerald) who is the owner of Security Roofing Systems. This company has complaints listed with Palm Beach County and the BBB, too.

I can't understand how any contracting work at all gets done here in South Florida with all the rampant fraud.

I couldn't agree more. I've owned my own buisnees for 8 yrs. am state licensed and recieved my book in the trowel trades in 1973 out of local #7 in miami dade. It's amazing to me what passes for construction, and contractors. Not to mention means and methods. Where the hell is the accountablity? A county lic. is a joke. Most of these guys get an occupational lic. and advertise in the news papers as being lic.& ins. and the papers aid them by printing that carp with a small disclaimer. The DBPR will collect your money with absolutely no enforcement on unlic. guys making a bad name for us and driving prices into the toilet at the same time. Oh well, another day in paradise.

Great information but publish alist telling us where we can check on INDIVIDUALS, not only company names. Many of these crooks move from business name to business name and it is not possible to identify them, their history or their background. Also, how about getting together with a recognize state or national roofing association and producing a "model contract" for each south Florida county if that is necessary. Also publish how this contract should be used including the method to verify the person we are dealing with.(Every roofer I interviewed refused to show me their drivers license or if they did, refused to allowd me to copy their name and number.) I really do not know who I am dealing with even when it comes to companies that have been around for 50 years. Actually, these older ones are the most uncooperative and the nastiest ones to deal with because they become indigenent that their honesty is even questioned. ALSO, IF YOU REALLY DO WANT TO DO THE PUBLIC A SERVICE, publish the ROOFING CODE. Every roofer says they will re-roof according to The Code, but no one want to provide a copy of the code, including building departments I've contacted--WHAT'S going on here?

Honest and ethical roofing and other contractors have the same problem as honest American consumers that have to get on an airplane. We are all considered guilty of being someone else because of what the crooks and terroriosts did to us. "We are all considered guilty and dishonest" is now a fact of life.
If you deal with homeowners, nowdays it doesn't matter who you are, every contractor and contract has to provide the legal protection and background and performance history that will make us consumers confortable that we are getting the performance we expect. And while on this subject--WHY SHOULD a consumer give any trades person a DOWN PAYMENT? You already have the legal protection afforded to you by lien laws and we, the consumer, have "nothing." We do not hide behind multiple company names, LLCs or as agents for companies. We have nothing to judge performance except the performance of work according to some unwritten performance standards. and don't tell me about The Code as Carlos mentioned. That's only good if you can get to court and have an expert testify. If you don't have the cash to buy materials and pay your employees, go get a job and work for someone.

Once again South Florida's reputation for dishonourable sleazebuckets rises. Florida has always been and continues to take the award as being the state best known for the short con or the long con, you can take your pick here but there is something for everyone who wants to rip off. Why? Because it's just so easy to get away with crime in Florida. So low end in general compared to so many other states in this beautiful country on so many levels. So, we keep reading articles like this day in and day out here, it's considered the norm. How sad for South Florida. Such trash.

What happened to COMPLETING a job in such a way that it doesn't register SO MANY complaints? That would obviate the need for so many "re-starts"

More regulation is not the answer. People need to do their homework before they give their hard earned money to anybody.

If they choose not to do their due diligence, then they bear the risk of losing their money.

Don't put regulations on the vast majority of contractors, who are honest and trustworthy, just because people won't do their homework. People who are conscientious don't typically lose their money. Be conscientious and stop asking the government to regulate everything.

The best way to find a good contractor is to look at your neighbors and see who has had "good" work done. then when you finally find a good contractor don't give him anything upfront, make it all , pay as you go...... and even then you still need to stay on top of them.

As one of the "All American Driveways & Pool Deck Inc." dissapointed, fooled customers who had filed complaints, I would ask: Where is Justice when the cynic, shameless and sarcastic Company's owner states: " ...I simply will open a new company with a new contractor in a new place and a new name. I will be making $6 or $7 million in less than a year."
