I'm a little confused. I know trains make a fair amount of noise comming down the tracks and walking by Walden Pond is a very peaceful area. I can't see how people don't know their comming.That being said don't trains have engineers? Don't they watch where their going? Don't they have horns?

I cannot see how people do not know they are coming either. In regards to engineers this incident took place in the dark Wednesday night. Which means the engineer might not have been able to see him until there wasn't enough time or this was a suicide. Engineers are required to be extremely observant and scan the surroundings but just like driving at night your visibility is reduced. Thanks to politics Concord, Lincoln and a few other towns along the Fitchburg line or no horn communities. This means if the engineer blows the horn the MBTA/MBCR will be fine for violating the policy the towns have passed.

MBTA Hijacked
|
The MBTA has been hijacked and is intimidated by the local towns. Thus they can't keep the citizens safe any longer. For example, in Ayer the town is demanding, the governor release funds to build a monster garage in Ayer even though the citizens do not want such. For years the MBTA has been trying to find a regional solution to the area's rail transportation problems. But again, the Town of Ayer is trying push the state into ignoring the needs of the people and placate a vocal town.

Half of the residents in the towns the tracks run through b!th about the horns. The MBTA is basically threatened with suits unless they keep the horns to a minimum. Blame the towns is people keep getting killed!

What part of "stay off the tracks" don't these poor clowns get? The rule of thumb, since I was a little kid anyway, has been If you don't want to be run over by a train, stay off the tracks. Whether or not they can hear it coming shouldn't matter, if you're not on the tracks, you won't get hit. I can recall seeing no threspassing signs in many locations along RR right of ways. They just there for a decoration?

I think its so sad.
Yesterday i saw a body of a guy who got hit by a train.
That poor man didnt even see it coming.
