Tribes run these Indian casinos ,that don't even have to pay taxes as other businesses do ,fail the people they claim they are helping. That is because tribes are run as socialist governments. It's Marxism and communism. Group-think, not individuality.
Capitalism, the system everyone else operates under, allows even the newest arrival who may have come without a dime in his pocket, to achieve the American Dream.
When kids know casino money will arrive in their mailbox with no effort they revert to their criminal ways to entertain themselves- no need to get a job. It's a pity that even though many tribes offer free college education to the children, the children don't seem to have any incentive to get an education because the money just keeps rolling in. Perhaps the fact that many of these "tribes" only recently organized, bringing long-lost relatives together in order to satisfy federal requirements to become a tribe and get on the gravy train. There was no cohesive tribal unit to begin with. It was all built out of ancestral documents and such by lawyers eager to get a cut of future casino money.
Bottom line- when all Americans live under the same laws and have the same opportunities, communities thrive. Tribalism is divisive and self-destructive.

Well what do you know, money cannot buy class or even basic common sense. Kind of funny that these tribes that dole out upwards of $25,000 a month to their members are having worse problems than before. Maybe the Manuels should do like so many other tribes and just start kicking their members out. It is these tribes and these kinds of tribal members that blacken the name of every other tribe and its members. It used to be reservation and non-reservation indians, and now it is Casino and non-casino indians, its a sad fact that most people wrongfully assume that all indians get fat casino checks when in reality only a small fraction do. I say if your members are retarded and break the law, then cut em off. Take that money you would of given them and send it to a homeless shelter or the Red Cross or even a school.

Guess I should of read the one post to this article before I posted my first one. I semi-agreed with some of your post, however most of it just made you sound like you were totally clueless and spouting off big words to sound like you were educated on the subject. So to clarify most tribes were recognized as such back in the 30's under the IRA. Most tribes do not offer to pay for full college education, most do help defray the cost though. Also Tribes do pay taxes, casino money is not tax-exempt, in fact I am surprised that people still try to use that argument. I will agree that tribes should not freely hand out them casino checks, it should be if you don't get a college education then you don't get a casino check until you are like 30, don't reward ignorance. If you happen to get a degree then you are eligible after you graduate. If people are frustrated with Casino's at least try to educate yourself, don't just spout false or untrue rhetoric. That is all!

The problem is that before Casinos they were just poor ignorant people that were taken advantage of.
Now they are just RICH ignorant people who collect more money in one month than most working families collect all year.

Excuse me I am Native American I work hard for everthing I have. Everyone in my Family is well Educated and I have family members from five different tribes in California. To my knowledge I have not met a family that hasn't had at least one bad seed in there family, no matter what race they are. Why is it so hard for people to just except that they don't have any money and that's not the Native American's fault it's there own fault so if you need money go out and find a job. I think the casino's offer thousands of jobs to people other than Native American's. I work everyday 8am-5pm and I have two children I am raising. I pay taxes on every check I get. I love being Native American not because of Casino's or anything like that but because of my heritage and my language which I teach to my children. So unless you have met every Native American there is in this world maybe you should think before you talk.

I know the tribe in Coachella Valley...They are money hungery people who lock-up land owners that farm indian land. They veto developments on Indian Land and never sell land they own that people pollute on... They just let their dirty land sit around looking trashy.... Most tribe members never respond to calls or try working out deals with other land owners. They just want to build casino's and take tax free money. I'm happy we have Arnold on our side.

What tribe are you talking about? I think every person in this world is money hungry. Who doesn't want alot of money? My mother owns 40 acres in Thermal and her land isn't used but it remains clean and why should we sell our land to people who aren't Indian? So they can take everything we own and leave us with nothing to pass on to our children. My tribe has signs everywhere posted around our reservation to help stop all the illegal dumping which I know most of it is dumped by local trailer park residents who can't afford to pay for trash pick-up
and storage facility owners because there renters
can't afford to pay the storage fee and their units
get cleaned out and dumped on the reservation. Our
tribe offers a reward to anyone who has information on people who are dumping on INDIAN LAND so before you speak please get your facts straight. One more thing any person who receives money from their tribe must pay taxes on that money. I don't know where you are getting your information from but everything you just wrote about is wrong. So maybe you should stop believing everything you read on the internet.

NativeMom03,
You are absolutely correct!
Everyone is money hungry & given the opportunity, would do whatever it takes to get it.
I personally know people who have lived on State Workmens' Compensation (non Native American) for years. Mailbox money is their way of 'making a living.'
The casinos offer jobs to many people who are not Native American. Without the local casinos there would be many more people out of work and collecting unemployment.
Receiving a small monthly check or help with some portion of your child's education is simply your right, given what the American government has done to your ancestors!
Stick to your 'guns' and speak out whenever you have the chance.
Those that criticize are only jealous because they do not have the opportunity you may have.
They do not want to work for a living and believe that you are getting something for nothing. Truth be known, they would grab the opportunity given the chance.
