Shame on these short-sighted opportunists. The citizens of Sonoma will be laughing their heads off when these creeps masquerading as Native Americans renege on the so-called deal. I'll bet most of the airhead bleeding hearts in Marin voted for to let them build these monstrosities anywhere they please.

Let the Graton Rancheria build their casino! Lawsuits and protests will not do anything but waste MONEY!!! Outraged citizens just need to realize that there is more to benefit the community from projects such as these, than strip malls, walmarts, etc. With the economy in such a slump and the housing market, the dollars generated from this facility will only enhance the community. Please spend your time fighting things such as homelessness, lack of money for education and the healthcare crisis or the useless WAR in IRAQ, than an Indian casino. Wake up!

is the word I use to describe this situation. I agree with Mr. Huffman this agreement means nothing. Proof positive...the indian gang in So. Cal. that just backed out of a $30 million payment to the state via some contractual loop hole.

I have absolutely no respect for the Graton Rancheria, nothing but a bunch of money whores.

Idiocy. It's not like casinos make money appear out of the air, by offering valuable services to the community - they leech it out of desperate people, who otherwise would be spending it on their childrens' education, that oil change they needed, or the next months' rent. But who really gives a crap about the citizens. What we really need is some idiotic deal where we sucker Americans into giving their money to Indians (not rewarding education, but simple greed by exploiting a loophole), who then contractually give a cut to the state to gloss over some fat paychecks to a bunch of do-nothings. Everybody wins!

A town for every casino and a casino for every town when I'm elected. Stacked decks, fixed roulette wheels and shady back-room deals coming to a town near you soon. I promise.

Retirement homes will be part of the plan, they got tons of extra time and expendable money.

BINGO!

Elect Pinky, and Pinky will help destroy every community that signs up for annihilation.

According to Sonoma county officials, the new casino will generate an additional 5000 personal vehicle trips per day in Sonoma county, and yes a percentage of that will go through Marin too, but not all of it. Also they said it will suck up 4.5 percent of southern Sonoma county's groundwater, making for even more mandatory rationing for Novato/Sonoma residents. I guess some people think this will help the poor economy up there ? Fat chance.

I always thought it was simply an issue of what is important to us Californians. I always considered the natural landscape something special that we should work to preserve and try to keep pristine while trying to use less natural resources to live our lives. The "Indians" or "Native Americans" (I have a small amount of Indian blood) are whining about how Europeans came and F@#$ed everything up and killed their way of life. First of all, my European ancestors were not the Conquistadors sent by the wealthy Spanish that came over brutalized many Native americans. Second, I was born here in California, I this IS MY HOME, and the fact that your ancestors were not able to fight off frontiersmen in a remote place, during a brutal period of history is not a reason why you should have rights I do not. The issue that I find most irritating is that the whole point of their whining is how bad our culture is environmentally and socially. So why do they want to participate so badly in our culture of enviromantal destruction? I dont condone paving over paradise any more than we already have unless it is for the purpose of housing and feeding people. These Casino Indians have POLLUTED the Alexander Valley with the River Rock Casino more so than any so called "WHITE MAN" has since the first frontiersmen touched foot on the California coast. The River Rock Casino is a the single worst dent in the look, feel, and character of Sonoma County. Sure we screwed up the natural environment with our Vineyards, I agree, but these Casinos are the epitome of the lack of apprectian for the natural world that these Indians blame everybody else for.

Keep the Casinos out of here...they have all of the crappy central valley to infest and so-cal...also a dump.

We don't need more crime, poverty, etc that a Casino brings.

It will create jobs, but that doesn't outweigh the bad side effects.

To Jacquie...you sound like some sort of pro-casino lobbyist. I hope they protest this every inch of the way until this plan blows up completely and goes away. You seem to not understand what problems it would cause. Anyone who actually likes going to Casinos knows you are just a few hours from NV and Tahoe. That is where people go to gamble and it should stay that way.

Indian Casinos never appeal to me. We already have enough anyway. You can just go to the East Bay if your really that addicted or the ones outside Sacramento.

Remember the commerical with the people throwing the trash out of their car and the indian crying. Where is that indian guy now because it seems like all us white people crying dont get any attention and were called intolerent by the CASINO Indians who want to tear apart open space and screw up beutiful places like the Alexander Valley. The RIVER ROCK in Healdburg/Geyserville is disgraceful! Stop this Indian Casino open space destruction.

I see a pattern shaping. You cannot resist the lies. Pathological maybe.

Iron Eyes Cody, the "Crying Indian" whose tearful face in 1970s television commercials became a powerful symbol of the anti-littering campaign, died Monday. He was in his 80s or early 90s.

Cody died of natural causes at 1:30 p.m. PST in his home in the Los Feliz section of Los Angeles, police spokesman Ed Funes said.

Cody, whose acting credits date back to silent movies and include dozens of films and television shows, was best known for the ads from the group Keep America Beautiful that showed him shedding a single tear as he watched people litter.

He was born in Oklahoma, but the exact date of birth wasn't known. Reference books give various dates, from 1904 to 1915. Based on his credits, his most likely date of birth was 1907.
