He should be punished harshly, but what about all the molesters and rapists who permanantly damage people? Why aren't they getting life in prison!!!

Tatoos are disgusting but if someone wants them fine its up to those who want them alot good people have them , but to put them on a 7 year old unreal put those morrons in jail where they belong. These gangs like to recruit kids when they are young to do their dirty work and these young people thinks its cool. I see this in this city alot of young kids going that route at a young age just to be part of the group and end up getting in trouble time and time again, their dont care until some thing happens in a bad way and say "I didnt know" which is crap they do know and really dont care until its too late.

Lock the dirtbag up and be prepared to lock-up his dirtbag son when he follows in his dirtbag fathers footsteps.

No way should a 7 year old get a tattoo. When he is older he may regret it and at the age of 7 of course he is going to want one, specially if the dad has one. They are so permanant. I'm not a fan of tattoo's but don't disapprove of them, just not a good idea on a minor specially a 7 year old.

The transgression here has far less to do with the discomfort the child may have endured than the purely perverted mentality which put him in the position of believing that gang behavior is something to be admired and imitated. Gonzalez should be charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, along with whatever other charges are on the table, and he should lose any custody rights he has with respect to his son. It is interesting, though, how this situation is viewed as being dramatically worse than when parents have a child circumcised for "religious" reasons. That's disfigurement, too, and medical benefits from the procedure are so obscure that they do not offer any real vindication for what is really a pagan-type ritual. And yes, children undergoing circumcision experience a great deal of discomfort.

Gonzalez told her the tattoo was "the result of a misunderstanding" and promised to have it covered with flesh-colored ink, she said. How could a child sitting there while being tattoed be a "misunderstanding?" It was a deliberate attempt at the dirt bag father to drag his son into his pathetic lifestyle choice of being a gang member. Way to go, Dad. Unbelievable that people are such crappy parents. Proof positive that not everyone should have children. A child at seven can in no way understand the negative impact on society that these dangerous gangs inflict on the public and the lives they literally destroy. Lock up dad for simple stupidity and ignorance.

Tattoos are so stupid and unatractive, You just have to wonder about the mentality of some moron who has to mark his/her body this way. The person who develops the technology to easily and safely reverse/undo tattoo (laser will leave scarring) will become a multi billionaire as these young idiots realize how stupid they have been and pay to have the stupid marks removed. It really tells you about someone when you see them covered in tattoos. Morons!

Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor? YES Initiating a child into a Criminal Gang? YES Disfigurement?= Circumcision, piercing ears, 2nd Hand Smoke? YES on all counts Rites of passage are for children that reach their teens... NOT babies 7 years old or younger.

I believe an appropriate response would be to permanently disfigure the two men, by removing their testicles. They want to claim a gang, then off with their balls. It would keep the gang activity from going from one generation to the next.

OMG! A tatoo removal is more painful than an ear piercing which can close up on it's own. A circumcision is usually done at birth and is usually done for medical reasons. A tatoo is a permanent mark and a painful procedure. He scarred his child's body intentionally because of his own selfish gang beliefs. In my opinion it is both a disfigurement and poor parenting. Even with the laser removal he will have a scar.

I agree, Dad should lose custody. And mom should have access to some support for herself and her child, counseling, gang diversion, home visitation... all much, much cheaper,(and considerably more productive for the minor child) than incarceration. The truth is, people in our society do far worse things to their children, and receive far less prison time (if they ever suffer the consequences) than what is on the table in this story. skeptic1st wrote: The transgression here has far less to do with the discomfort the child may have endured than the purely perverted mentality which put him in the position of believing that gang behavior is something to be admired and imitated. Bill, I think you are on to something there! Testical removal would not only have a calming effect on the macho gangbanger thugs preying on poeople, but it would be a strong disincentive for others not to join the gang. Anyone with gang tats ought to be a candidate for testical removal. It's cheap, quick and would have lasting results! Let's put it on the ballot in 2010. Would end California's gang problem almost overnight!
