But did this go from people getting killed watching an illegal street race, standing in the middle of a dark road to the late Emmitt Till? Somewhere down the road, I got lost in the sauce.

Someone's always trying to tell all Black people in here that we're wrong because the group of people that were hit on 210 were mostly Black. Go figure.

Dear Cynthia from Bad Boy Club, NASCAR lovers, less desirables, etc.
All I can say it is people like you, who no doubt has a souped up Civic that sounds like crap, are the reasons why rednecks/wiggers/yo-boys should be shot and/or dumped on a deserted island. Our world would be so better off without mindless activities like "Street Racing". Go get a job and or volunteer in a hospital or homeless shelter which has a purpose in life...
Also, this accident was very unfortunate and sad. My prayers go out to the unlucky families that have to deal with a silly incident such as drag racing. When are people going to grow up and stop doing red-neckish activities that KILL innocent people. Even though I feel bad for those who died, in a sense they would not have perished if not participating in a stupid, dangerous past time. Get a life, be an adult, and get some intelligence and stop doing mindless backward "sports". Why not go volunteer or have a purpose in life?

Yup - when you could be white, black, yellow, red, or pink with purple polka dots - this was stupid. Race had nothing to do with it.

Sorry - you have some good points but I have to defend myself and my group of Redneck friends (we get lumped into that category)- who do love Nascar but are 100% opposed to Street Racing. It is one of the dumbest activities (I don't even consider it a sport) to take part in. And, I don't care if you are driving the car or just a spectator - it is stupid. If you want to race that bad, there are plenty of closed tracks that charge a minimal fee to race. They are controlled and the drivers and spectators are much safer than if they were standing out in the middle of the road at 3 am. AND, you won't wind up with a 20 year old coming up on them, not seeing them then plowing into them. So, not disagreeing with you but not all "Country Boys and Girls" condone this criminal act.

MIKE, I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ONE HUNDRED PRESENT... I AM REFERRING TO THE POLICE SAYING THEY COULD DO NOTHING IF THEY SAW ALL THOSE PEOPLE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THAT IS SO OFF THE WALL

hmmm wrote: I frequent many of these races and usually they are safe. In fact, many of the participants are skilled - more so than those traditionally on the road. Usually races will take place in industrial parks at night. These are places outside of neighborhoods and with little or no traffic. Police usually break them up and racers go somewhere else. I guess, the point to make is that, for the most part, the races do not end like this. In fact, there are so many more traffic accidents everyday that you would do better to complain about traffic, in general, being the cause of accidents rather than this rare but tragic event. This is just one example of what COULD go wrong. As with everything from driving to sky diving to roller coaster riding, the risks are there. HELLO!!! IT SOUND'S LIKE YOU ARE CONDONDING THE ACTION'S OF THESE PEOPLE ...PLEASE TELL ME HOW YOU CAN CONDONE SOMETHING THAT IS ILLEGAL?

It is a shame. I started checking this site out too in the hopes of exchanging some diverse opinions and sharing in some intelligent discussions. I am as guilty as others for responding to the negative, abusive and racial comments but, there are some things that just ruffle my feathers. The site isn't silly - just some of the people that come here to post their uneducated opinions. I agree with you, before you post something, do some research. I knew about Hamilton E. Holmes because while my father was being transferred around (military) were were stationed in Georgia for a short time. The school I attended offered a Georgia History class as an elective - I took it - great class!!! I do admit that I knew nothing about Emmitt Till but I looked it up and am completely appalled. But, I did look him up prior to posting any responses to him. I wish others would do the same. So, keep posting your intelligent posts!!!!

Regardless of where the ILLEGAL RACE takes place (highway, neighborhood or industrial park) doesn't change the fact that it is illegal. I am all for getting your kicks doing something that you love to do but, not if you get your kicks doing something illegal. And unfortunately, I used to get my kicks riding roller coasters - unfortunately, too old for that now. But, I am an avid race fan and my brother races motorcycles and I have been to see him race and it is definitely a rush. HOWEVER, any race that I watch or that my brother participates in are legal - on closed tracks with all of the appropriate safety precautions in place.

Karma wrote: Well, I read about half of these comments and I think it's quite funny how people can spew all these judgmental things about street racers and what really happened and how stupid they were when they weren’t even there. It's always a tragedy when anyone is lost; people make mistakes, unless you’re perfect like the ignorant people who have posted heartless things. 1st off, people don’t street race at 9 in the evening for a reason. The better question is what was the boy doing out with his little cousin at 3 AM because it wasn't picking him up from band practice, that’s for sure. 2nd street racing has been going on for years over there and police know about it yet, refuse to do anything until shit like this happens. Now, it’s all the racers fault? I don’t think so. I know of 3 policemen that live in spitting distance of the strip and don’t do anything about it. Yet I don’t think the police are to be blamed either. The man that was driving the car should be to blame. Yes charge the street racers with the racing. But that’s it. Lastly, the man that was driving wasn't blinded by smoke because no racers take off when there is burn out smoke, that’s just how it is. And the man had no lights on for some reason, some say he was running from cops trying to get over county lines because of his lack of permit. I say that you don’t plow into a crowd of people going the speed limit and have body parts flying every where. It just doesn’t add up that way. And for all of those people that continue to say how stupid the racers are and how they were all rookies and punk ass kids, maybe you should get your facts straight because most of the people that race are vets and at least 30 years old. And for those who will read this and leave negative comments, I'm glad God or some higher being tapped you on the shoulder and said "Judge these people for me" because all I have to say to the heart less is that... Karma is indeed a bitch. RIP* All those whom were lost that tragic nite. KARMA, AMAZINGLY GOD DIDN'T TAP ME ON THE SHOULDER AND TELL ME TO JUDGE THESE PEOPLE, HE WILL DO THAT.... I THINK YOU HAVE A REAL PROBLEM CONDONING ILLEGAL STREE RACING AND THE GROUPS WATCHING ON A PUBLIC HIGHWAY!!! I ALSO KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THERE ARE PG POLICE LIVING RIGHT IN THAT AREA WHERE THEY RACE!!! I AM TELLING YOU THIS DOES NOT ADD UP AND I BELIEVE ALL (ALL)SHOULD BE ACCOUNTABLE RACER'S, SPECTATORS!!! IF THE YOUNG PEOPLE SEE THIS AND HEAR PER SAY>IT'S OK, WHAT KIND OF A MESSAGE ARE WE LEAVING WITH OUR YOUTH??? IF YOU HAVE BEEN TO THES ILLEGAL SCREET RACES YOU ARE JUST AS GUILTY IN MY EYES AND IN GOD'S EYE YOU WILL ONE DAY FIND OUT!!!

Look at how many comments this thread has. Now go to one where a White person did wrong. That's how it is.
