Throw the key away. In Clay Co. They bond out and continue their criminal activities. Saving the jail (Justice Center?) for paying inmates from other counties. What a travesty!

He is a well known drug dealer, user, Burglar, and all around basket case. You couldn't possibly know what he did, or did not do, or admitted to, so save your breath. He has had chance after chance to get straight, but instead he continues to peddle dope and steal from hard working people in nearly every town he infests. Nice try, but he needs to get off the smack and get a life.

why are they just charging that guy with possesion of a handgun? Shouldn't he be charged with attempted murder if he fired at police?

That is just to hold him until his initial hearing and all the prosecutor gets to review all the paper work. Then he gets to go to court and get presented with the rest of his charges. He will be screwed regardless, being a serious violent felon with a stolen handgun, as well as being a habitual offender. He needs to stay locked up this time.

The officers are to be commended for using restraint and doing a great job. Officers are always bashed by those who have had their feathers fuffeled and it's times like this when the community needs to support the police. We could have had a dead or missing paperboy on our hands. I only wish they would have put a slug in this scums brain and eliminated him from the earth!!! And for the truth guy you should change your name to the Stupid Guy if you think Keller did nothing wrong!

I'm writing this comment, because "I" was the person who Duke tried to Car-Jack. This was the first time I've ever had a gun pointed in my face. Until this happened, I have always stopped whenever I thought someone needed help. Never Again!
He was walking down the middle of the road towards me and waving his arm for me to stop which I did, thinking he needed help..it was 5 am and dark. Next thing I know is I have a 45 caliber semi automatic pistol pointed in my face and him screaming for me to get out of the car. Pretty terrifying at that moment knowing his finger is on the trigger and "He" is deciding if I live or die. At this point I had no idea he had already taken a shot at a Deputy. I didn't know if he would shoot me in the seat and pull me out or if I got out, if he would shoot me in the middle of the street as he knew I could identify him.
With no time to think, I just stomped the gas petal and laid down in the seat, not knowing if he would shoot at me as I drove off. I had my cell phone and called 911 and drove another 2 blocks until I found the police officers who were still looking for him. I was so shook up from this that I lost a days pay from work and I can still see that large hole in the barrel of that gun when I close my eyes. Hope none of you ever go through an experience like this. And Yes,from a victim's point of view, this guy has NO business back out on the street. From what I've been told, he's been in trouble for a long time and maybe this will be the end to his crimes.

Thanks Barbara Ann for the kind words. I am doing fine. I've just struggled a bit with what some people have said. Some friends have told me they thought I was stupid for not handing over the car to him. Honestly. the car was the last thing on my mind. I can't help to wonder what might have happened had I got out. Would he have shot me seeing how there was no one around at 5 AM to witness it happening? Would he have shot me so I couldn't ID him or be able to tell the police what
direction he drove off in? I guess when something happens like this there will always be a lot of What if's. I'm sure that the Deputy he shot at is also asking himself, what if is aim had been a bit better.
All I know is that he had the gun inside my window pointed right at my face as I was looking at him. Again, no time to think out my options. I just stromped the gas and laid down in the seat. Yes, he could have still shot at me, but at least I had a little more protection while still in the car. People seem to think I should have done things differently, but there again, they were not in that situation. Like others, I have a family, married for 31 years to the same lady,
2 sons, a 14 month old grandaughter. With the simple pull of a trigger, our lives would have been changed forever. I have to believe I made the right choice or I was just very lucky that morning. Just shows you that the most precious things in your life can change in the blink of an eye as they say.
Thanks again for your post.

Glad Mike is alright. That shows what police go through in a shooting situation. You have to react and there is no time to sit and think about things. Slow people and slow thinkers end up dead. Mike, do not let anyone tell you that you were wrong in any way. You are alive!!! Remember several years back a guy was carjacked at Jackson bridge in Parke County and he fought the guy off and got the gun away from the bad guy, who jumped in the creek and fled. Sounds pretty stupid fighting some nut with a sawed off shotgun does'nt it???? Police later found the guys other victim dead under the bridge dead from where he killed him prior to trying to carjack this victim. So sounds like in a flash the guy made the right dicision and lived just like Mike. Until you have that gun shoved in your face save all your bullshit judgement for a checker game or something!
Good thinking Mike!!

Not all books, but most can be judged by whats on the cover these days.
