Why put up a stop sign, when you can spend tens of thousands of dollars on a roundabout?

They were running around in circles (bad pun intended) trying to figure out how to spend the funds received and couldn't come up with anything better. Now instead of sitting in line in one of the many parking lots in the area waiting your turn to get out (which comes from the light change)we can sit in line waiting to enter the circles with an endless stream of cars. Gee, won't it be fun?!

I foresee many accidents in the near future. As all of the teen drivers head back to school next week I guarantee that most of them have never laid eyes on a roundabout and do not know how to maneuver through one (and most of the other drivers as well). They will have to put officers at these roundabouts (more $ down the drain) to help with traffic flow until everyone gets use to them.

Then they should not be driving.

Why do you think a roundabout will cause accidents? It won't. Any idiot can use them just by paying attention to yielding the right of way. The one on Finch Farm will be much safer than having that sharp curve with a road intersecting its middle. The Wheatmore kids are no more dangerous than kids at other schools; they'll have just as many accidents from the speeding they do up and down that road as they will slowing down for a roundabout. If someone doesn't know how to handle a roundabout, he should NOT be driving in the first place.

And, yes, it is because of Wheatmore and the extra traffic that came with the opening of that school. BUT it was done as a result of all the speeding those kids were doing on that road. It was not done as a punishment. I just hope it slows them down.

I do not see how it is going to help Randleman improve school traffic. You still are going to have kids darting in the road, cars stopped in the middle of the road to get their child or children, etc. To me this was a waste of money.

these traffic circles (i don't know when they started calling them roundabouts, probably a randolph co. thing, lol) are a mistake & are a waste of $. the ones in randleman are supposed to ease congestion at peak times. they will cause more cogestion as people will put om their right turn sianals as they enter at an angle where their turn signals won't automatically cut off and others will assume they are turning right & pull into the circle causing accidents that will block all traffic in the circle, thus effectively closing down the entire intersection. one will be right in front of two schools w/ impacient middle school parents rushing their kids to school on their way to work & inexperienced teenage drivers.then you will have the typical randolph county country drivers who aren't used to traffic, a lot w/ blue hair, that won't turn right at a regular stop sign if they see a car coming a quarter mile away. they're going to sit there & sit their waiting as traffic stacks up behind them. the people behind them will get impacient eventually & start honking, causing the overly cautious driver to get nervous & pull into the circle at an inopportune time, causing an accident, that again will shut off the whole intersection. i guess they, the planners, had to figure out some way to spend their stimulus package $ before they lost it & this was the best they could come up with. this will cause more problems than the ones intended to be fixed. the money could have been better spent in some way to encourage future development, rather than a quick fix for a problem that didn't exist in order to temporarily employ road crews causing more congestion & accidents. i rarely see an accident there now, but i bet they will be a regular occurance from now on.

no it was local morons like you. yankees don't call traffic circles roundabouts and most of them i've encountered have more than a ninth grade education, as you seem to have somehow managed.

something known as a traffic circle to everyone other than randolph county, n.c. planners. i don't know where they came about the word roundabout. maybe ya gotta go roundabout your arse to get to your elbow. this was waste of money that could have been used on something important & helpful that instead will worson the nonexistant problem it was meant to fix.

I agree with your comment about the teen drivers. However, I think the traffic situation will be a lot worse than than dealing with the teens who have never seen a roundabout. Add into the mix the adult drivers, like myself (I've been driving for more than 30 years), who lack experience with roundabouts. They have not been common around here until now, so those of us who don't travel out of the area much have not driven on them.

Roundabouts are off the hook, if used correcty. No more having to come to a complete stop if its not necessary, and it will prove to me much cheaper in the long run. Its one of the few things that Europe has better than us.

Well said, Buck. Roundabouts have existed everywhere except in the backwoods for years. They're easy to use and much more efficient. Just slow down, yield to the ones in the circle, and proceed to your right turn. No one is turning left. Easy. Piece of cake. And it will slow down any speeding teenager who is so in love with school that he is in a hurry to speed there, not to mention anyone else who is speeding. LOL Those who are whining that "people won't know how to use them, and it will be confusion" will be embarrassed once they do see how easy and efficient roundabouts are. Those who whine about "money is being wasted" are those who typically whine about any money that is being spent by anyone other than themselves. Again, well said, Buck. I agree with your post.

Hey, Buck. I'm curious and would like your honest opinion on something if you don't mind, please. You ever notice how posting on a forum gives some people a false sense of their own intelligence? I think there are a few folks with pseudo doctorates in "Know-It-All-ness." LOL
There are a couple of "Fact throwers" who express their own opinions as facts and swear that what they say is always researched, tried, proven, and classified when it's only the opinion of themselves. They're on every forum simply to teach the rest of us what we ignorant people don't know so that we'll stand a smidgeon of a chance of becoming as smart and worldly as they. LOL I, myself, do not want to regress in my education in order to reach their level of egotistical stupidity. LOL So.... have you noticed a couple of these posters? I respect your opinion enough that I'm asking, Buck. Thanks.

Posters, forgive me for getting off topic with this post. I simply want this man's opinion for he always posts geniune facts or states his own opinions, and he seems geniunely both book smart and common-sense smart.

I couldn't agree with you more ma'am. I have run across so many I have had to second guess my own postings to ensure I don't come off as the same. Thanks for the kind words, it's not to often that I run across someone with a mindset like yours.
