Hohenwald has but one newspaper, "The Herald". They do not have an online edition, only print copies.

My husband, Mike, and I are hoping to someday soon move to Hohenwald and live out our yrs there. We love little towns and this sounds just like the one we live in right now, only quite a bit warmer,,,which is what we both want.
Have been ck'g all the sites on Hohenwald, TN and it is just what we would like to settle in. Hate large cities, lose all the protection and friendliness...too commercial.

I will be retiring to the area soon. I like Hohenwald, too. I drive up from Atlanta several times a year to volunteer at The Elephant Sanctuary. I also subscribe to The Lewis County Herald.

Hohenwald Is the greatest! People are great! I love the main Street. There is a Great old tattoo artist in town. Very quaint. Love it!

Yeah, well, good luck moving here. The gas prices are among the highest in the state. There's no hospital. Kids are allowed to ride around and shatter your windows in your home with their "boom" boxes in their vehicles (I've reported them to the police, but it's done no good, even though it's supposed to be against the law for the kids to do that). People will steal anything they can from you. Shoplifting is really bad in this town so it forces the stores to hike their prices among the highest in the state. Not to mention that there aren't that many businesses here besides banks so if you need a job, you're pretty much messed over unless you want to spend your paycheck on gasoline to drive out of town and back. Drug addicts everywhere you look. People would just as soon run over you as look at you (but that's true anywhere in Tennessee). Quite a few people have moved here thinking small town, lovely, and finding out it's right the opposite. And they've left. Fast. Everything's laid back all right .... I've lived here most of my life and believe me, if the gasoline prices and housing weren't so expensive right now, I'd be out of here in a heartbeat. Hohenwald's nothing like it used to be years ago.

If you want quaint, small, quiet town, try Hampshire, Tennessee. That's just a few miles (20 maybe?) outside Hohenwald, to the East. It's about halfway between Hohenwald and Columbia. There's no hospital there either, but it does put you closer to Columbia if you're in need of a hospital. I've thought about moving to Hampshire myself.

Dear Citizen ... you paint such a bleak picture. I visit Hohenwald several times a year and haven't encountered anything you describe. The small downtown area is re-vitalizing. I have noticed the new banks. That tells me that there are plans for new developement and Hohenwald probably won't be a small town in 10 years. The Elephant Sanctuary is renovating a couple of buildings downtown for an Education and Welcome Center. The sanctuary attracts volunteers from all over the world and that is good business for the town. I don't live there, but I have friends who do and they enjoy living in Hohenwald.
