America is in deep sh!t. Humans cant even coexist with the animals, then the humans will die. this is not a threat, its a bloody fact!

Humans mistreat the animals, and hunt them to extinction, soon they will hunt the cows because they take up space, then the chickens and pigs...dont doubt they wont! Humans do foolish things then think about the repercussions later.

dam wrote: I "grew up" in Scotia, and maybe killing wildlife in Collins Park has been going on for years, and I just never heard about it. But now I've heard about it. If the best solution you can find to the Canadian Geese problem in Collins Park is to kill them; then you're the ones who don't belong in Scotia. What a horrible and brutal act this is -- talk about cruelty to animals!!! Geese mate for life and are truly a dear and intelligent bird. I don't know, but I've always had a thought about people who savagely destroy our fellow creatures -- how would they like it done to them? Further, what sort of lesson does this send to our youth? If you don't like something, just kill it? Great!! Whoever is involved in this I hope that the pain and anguish you are about to cause comes back onto you!(And, I'll bet that there is another more humane way to get the job done--aren't there recordings of wolf/coyote/dogs that could be played...?) Sometimes humans just plain make me sick!!!!

RobRoy wrote: I am actually from Scotia and live near the park. I hate to see the geese taken care of this way, but it really is the only logical and realistic solution at this point. The Canada Geese are an invasive species to the park land and lake, are destroying the ecology of the lake and surrounding land with contaminated feces and driving out native waterfowl. Destroying their eggs was the only thing permitted by the DEC and Nature Conservancy and that has not worked. Relocating them is not going to work since they will return. Annoying the with dogs will only drive them to nearby areas and cause other problems, like for the airport where they would also be killed and without hesitation or public input since it is also a military base. Sadly, killing some and then trying other means to keep them out id the only thing that will work. And remember, geese are not endangered. They are hunted in great numbers every September. Get over it. I agree with you. Any of the proposed solutions will not work. We went to Jumpin Jacks over the weekend, and took one of our dogs down by the water. There was too much bird crap to even walk. A temporary solution in the mean time would be to have someone clean it up. Put the people on welfare to work.

What is the answer to the geese problem in Scotia? Kill them, save them, sho the away? Only a few people will make this decision, despite all the post on this page. My thoughts would be, that if the need to kill these birds comes about, perhaps they could become a food source to the needy such as road killed deer.
