The headline say the man was rescued. The article states that he is still holed up in a remote cabin. Rescued means out of harm's way. Even recently rescue efforts (which are inherently dangerous themselves) have resulted in tragedy. Considering this man probably has friends and family watching the internet news for updates, it seems slightly irresponsible to use "rescued" until he is indeed safely out of the wilderness.

These Texas hunters crack me up. Once they get outside that game fence..or the city limits, they are ''lost''. We really need to start billing them.

Perhaps they should have said he was found, not rescued, but with 5 National Guard there to spend the night I'm sure it will turn out alright.

Good job everyone, it's nice to know you're out there if we get lost. But this guy did it right by leaving directions of his daily hike with someone, although I don't think it's a good idea to hike alone, even if you're experienced. Glad everything turned out OK..........

Perhaps there are times when someone from New Mexico goes hiking in another state, gets stranded, and their people have to go find the hiker. It most probably all evens out, we save someone from another state, they save someone from this state............

Check out the article in Silver City Sun News online for latest update on the rescue of the hiker....it is quite a story.

Yesterday's Las Cruces story also.....This Houston hiking club supposedly has 1,000 members and I hope they learned a lesson from this hiker's lack of adequate pre-planning and failure to understand going from sea-level to nearly 10,000 ft. strains the body.

They won't learn until they start getting the bill for these type of searches. Either that, or the day one of their children are lost and no SAR teams are availble because they all tied up or wore out looking for dumb-ass here.
