yo, in comment to "girly"s response.
first of all, i have been doing Food Not Bombs with my friends for a little over a year now. Wanna know the funny thing? I AM HOMELESS! homeless feeding homeless, who would of thought? and to everybody talking about "health hazards" due to the dumpstered food. THATS WHY WE DONT SERVE MEAT. All the food is sorted through and washed nd cooked properly. If it wasn't stated as dumpstered food, nobody would even be able to guess.
Whatever, everyone here commenting on this seems to be very ignorant.
I'm done now.

Let me tell any of you people who think that the food given to the homeless above and beyond the shelters is not warm enough, not cold enough, etc. YOU HAVE A LOT OF NERVE, whether you are homeless or not!!!!!!! If it weren't for the people who provide these services, many homeless people would have died - grow the hell up and get over yourselves!!!!!!!!!!

oh brother. why not pass out needles too, and do a needle exchange program. of course the 'altruists' are young, stupid, and living with mommy and daddy. Only when they grow up, move out, pay taxes, will they realize that ...if you feed them, they will come...ie, if you give hand outs to the homeless, like pigeons, they won't be motivated to do for themselves.
But these kids are young, dependent upon mommy, and too stupid to get this fact yet.
Santa Monica, CA...many years ago, and for years, had a homeless feeding on the steps of city hall every frickin' day. Also around city hall were constant muggings, thefts, burglaries, and the last straw...a murder of an old lady..whic prompted the city attorney and the homeowning populous to put an end to the magnet draw of homeless vis a vis crime.
Fort Lauderdale already has shelters to feed, house, bathe the homeless. If these naieve altruists wish to feed the homeless, let them open their mommy's house and do a soup kitchen in their living room, thereby adversely affecting only their home environment. Alternatively, the altruists-still-living-off-mom my, if they need a do-gooder goodwill gesture, they can feed the pigeons in a public park. That might be easier for them to handle.

Well said. I don't know if you ever met my Uncle Bernie (Alicki), but he was the #1 person in Ft. Lauderdale who cared about the homeless people's health and well being. All these other ignorant people who think the programs to help those in need are not needed have a lot to learn!!!

I knew your uncle. He and my husband used to buy beer for the homeless. Shelters give them meals, but not beer

Why on earth would anyone buy beer for the homeless?

Many of them are poor, and cannot afford it

Free beer and food....excellent, perhaps all the homeless from the north could come to lauderdale this winter....how would that be? how much support would be out there if it meant 2-4 needed to relieve themselves in your yard, or sleep in your garage?.......spend some time in the real world soon.....

The beer is given to the homeless near parks, far from our house. That way the homeless stay in the far section of town

Sorry Hillary, but that still is the dumbest thing around....feeding them is only barely acceptable, but buying them beer is the ultimate betrayal of society....Anyone on here seen what happened to San Francisco since they became homeless friendly? You can't even take your family to the wharf area without being accosted for your spare change....

Which is why you do not give out beer in areas you like to dine

Plus, I hear it is fun to watch how fast they show up after one or two of them hears a beer can open, like seagulls at the beach

Today you're happiest when you're giving your brain some exercise. That might involve reading a stimulating book, learning something new or simply chatting to someone who always makes you think. You're attracted to topics with a spiritual, religious or political slant, especially if you think they might improve the world in some way. And it could certainly do with some help.
