I bought a car from jim brown auto sales in april of 2011. First, every car I test drove was horrible in one way or another. The only one without some horrible sound emanating from beneath the hood was a 2001 ford taurus for $6995. I put $1000 cash down, and agreed to $65/week. Later, when I calculated my total cost, it was $13,000! Two weeks into driving this car, it started smelling funny and smoking. Turns out it was leaking transmission fluid, so bad that I had to carry two quarts of the stuff wherever I went because by the time I got there it would be gone. I took it in to get fixed, and they charged me $150, even though the lemon law requires that they must fix any problem within the first 30 days for free. Then, they didn't fix the problem!
One month after signing my contract, I was driving through a green light when someone ran into me. They were at fault, a police officer was even there and told me as much. However, unbeknownst to us, they gave the police and I a fake id and insurance card. Then, two days after the accident, my car was stolen out of a parking lot by that guy who was stealing cars with a tow truck.

I called Jim Brown and explained everything that happened, crying. They first told me that they would get my debt (still $11,500) transferred onto another car so I could still have transportation. They called me the next day, though, and told me my debt was actually too high to do that, so I should just keep paying them $260 a month for a car that didn't exist anymore! After four months of this, I finally gave up. There was no way I was ever going to be able to get a new car while paying them their exorbitant fee! Plus, without my own transportation, my hours at work got cut in half.

Since I stopped paying them, they have called hundreds of times, sometimes several times a day. Finally I had to change my number after they turned it over to a harassing collections agency.

I am 20 years old and $12,000 in debt because of them. They have ruined my credit (I still have yet to own a credit card) and I am now considering filing for bankruptcy. I beg anyone who is considering going through this company to reconsider. They ruined my credit and my life. They have absolutely zero compassion and no qualms about lying to get you to drive off their lot in one of their piece of shit cars.

I fully agree, i just bought a Nissan off of them, in the Online Ad, that i have right here in front of me, it clearly states "ICE COLD AIR" they said bring it back and we will fix it for ya, since it did not work when we signed the paper work, we was like ok, so we did, leaked out again, took it back again, 100 mile round trip, and showed me were the leak was and said it would cost me around 300 out of my pocket to fix it the right way, lol, surly this is a criminal case, because this is a crime for sure, we are in the process of a law suit against them, we also paid $1000 cash down, and were going to get it back and more, i will cost them so much in legal fees their going to wish that they simply fixed every thing that was wrong with this vehicle, stay tuned i will keep this post updated. by the way consumers, every vehicle on this lot is 2 or 3k priced over kelly blue book, don't trust my word, take a book with ya and price it, old Early 90's Camry's priced for 8K what a joke, IDIOTS!!!!!

You can take it to a certified mechanic and have it checked before you buy it. It isn't even that expensive, usually for $35-$50.
Also, check into it, there aren't many buy here, pay here lots that do repairs and then let you make payments on them. The y are a USED car lot and it is your responsibility to check out the car thoroughly before you buy it.
The lemon law only applies to brand new cars, and is very hard to get even then. The repair must be made FOUR times before the car will be issued a lemon.
They are a used car lot that takes a big risk on people with very poor credit, they must charge more because more cars go unpaid for than on a high credit car lot. But they also report to the credit bureau to help build their credit, sell to people who are on disability (are therefore un-sueable), and to people with multiple repossessions on their credit.
They have a huge lot and it isn't surprising that a bad car gets sold every now and again. They try to help in deferring payments, and paying for major repairs up front, and allowing customers to make payments on them.
It sounds to me like you didn't keep the required full coverage on your vehicle, and if you had then your debt would have been largely reduced. When they told you, that you could be resold into a new car, I'm sure they were under the impression your insurance was valid and would pay the majority of the balance. Maybe if you have kept up your end of the deal, with keeping full coverage insurance active on your vehicle, then they could have done more for you. Sorry if you expected a free car, but NO car lot is doing that for you.
And simply if the car has a problem, don't sign the papers before its fixed, and take it to a trusted mechanic before buying!

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Gemini

Today's Full Moon, a Lunar Eclipse, will have a big impact on your relationships during the next few months, so stand by. If the cracks have been starting to show in a partnership, this could be when they turn into major fault lines that demand action. Can they be repaired or do they spell the end of the line? It may feel like a crisis but that doesn't mean it really is one, so don't over-react.
