Every stupid boy in the world has taken some Black Cats fireworks apart and played around with them and talked or read about that somewhere.

Its part of growing up and doesnt indicate in my opinion either criminal intent or even that the child is somehow not thinking correctly. He is definitely no threat to anyone.

The police need to concentrate on the violent crimes in this county instead of worrying about ads on Craigslist, Orlando Weekly massage parlor ads, and some child playing with firecrackers.

Well, in any event, after we get the Downtown Venue built, maybe they will have exhibits on this type of thing. It's quite innovative - almost creative, in fact.

What is this world coming to with kids building bombs an taking them to school. Kids bringing guns to school too. Where are the parents. don't they know what their kids are doing? Parents need to take responsibility for their kids and spend time with them and know who their friends are and what the kids do on line. The world is a much more dangerous place now then when we were growing up inthe 70's and 80's.Parents need to pay more attention to what their kids do, who their friends are .The internet is a dangerous place for kids, one can get access to bomb making instructions, child molestors are out there too, parents monitor your kids computers !

Too much media hype on all of this. Everyone else is doing it, so it must be ok.

I could imagine what todays police would think of yesterdays future scientists. Everything gets blown out of proportion today.

My heart goes out to any parent that had to do what the Dad in this story did.

It was the right thing to do, but one can only imagine how it would feel as a parent to deliver your son to a police station under those circumstances. But with a dad willing to step up to the plate as in this case, the boy may yet straighten out and make his family proud.

Yes everyone does it when they're kids, however not everyone sends a text messages saying they're going to take it to school and set it off there. Yall must be reading only half of the story.

You can't blame the parents for thi9s one. As soon as the father found out what was going on he picked his son up from school and TOOK him to the police and gave his son to them to be booked. Don't blame the parents for this one. The father did the CORRECT thing.

Mr Paranoia,
The kid was just BSing around like children do. He probably had neither the ability or desire to do any harm to anyone. Id bet my life on it and I dont even know him.

For chrissakes there is a violent crime committed here every day and the police are out with this ridiculous story. Solve some real crime and stop worrying about some kid with firecrackers. You do know they sell them in Florida dont you?

What did the text message actually say. From the news coverage I saw, the text had no recognizable words. It looked like codes to me. I'm just curious...How did the friends mother understand what it said?

It is so nice that you are a KNOW IT ALL. Shut the F up. By the way, it IS the parent's fault. The Father took him to police because he probably knew his butt would be locked if he didn't....lets use some logic here "Miss KNOW IT ALL!!"

Mad about, usually I'm with you but I'm not so sure on this one. What strikes me is that he had pellets included with the materials he was planning on using. Those pellets could have been some nasty, indiscriminate projectiles if he had managed to set the device off amongst a group of people.

Also he was charged with "possession of a destructive device with intent to do bodily harm." So they developed probable cause not only to charge him with possessing a destructive device but also with intending to use it to harm someone.

As for the cops, in light of the violence that has occurred on campuses across the nation, they can't really ignore this stuff anymore.

Onepopo,

I agree with you its worth checking out however lots of boys unwrap their Blackcats fireworks & think that this sort of activity is interesting.

I knew lots of kids that did the same thing playing with fireworks, not threatening anyone however, and grew up to be accountants, scientists, and professionals.

Obviously I also agree with you the pellets are a little disturbing but it was probably just some sort of talk or something he read in a book.

Maybe Im giving the kid the benefit of the doubt but absent any kind of antisocial behavior or alienation Ill bet the kid had no real bad intentions.

See I feel that most people are really pretty good if taken on an individual basis.

Lets hope that he just wasnt thinking and thats it.

Best regards!

He goes to my school. Its kind of upsetting how they portray him. Mike was a nice kid, he could be really funny at times. He just made a bad choice, and sadly this is what it got him in trouble. So to all you calling him a bad kid, he's not a bad kid, he just made a bad choice. Knowing Mike, he probably didn't really mean what he said, he probably said it jokingly, but really didn't mean it, but thats just my view of it based on what I guess happend. Its kinda shocking the fact that just a few days ago we were in class and now this. Its weird. Its hard cause school will be different without him.

Hopefully you are right about his intentions. Either way, if he was really going to try hurt someone, maybe he'll now get the help he needs. Of course with our juvenile justice system who knows! And I do agree with you on most people being inherently good, inspite of what I've seen in my profession.

Best regards to you too! Stay safe.
