Our nation's war on terrorism has struck home. A devastating call was received by a mother in the community early Monday morning informing her that her son was killed in Afghanistan.

So sad, such a terrible loss. Sympathy to the family and friends.

Record Bee, is this the best you could do on this! This should be your top article and have much more detail. The other two newspapers covered this much better than you did.

This is truly a heartbreaker and shakes us to the bone. And really RB, todays' front page was the best you could do? These damn wars have been 'hitting home' since they began. Find Vanna, buy a vowel and GET A CLUE!!! The fashion show photo you printed next to this article couldn't have been more tacky if you'd tried.

My deepest sympathies to the Wilson family. Your son and brother died a hero giving his life for others. I knew Ivan very well from his high school days and he was a young man that had the determination to accomplish what ever he set his mind to do. I talked with him a year or so ago when he was home and he was very proud to be a Marine. He will be greatly missed but as I said before he is a hero. Semper Fi.

I did not know this young man and have no connection to his family BUT I must say SHAME on the Record Bee for the LACK of honor and respect due this young man and his family. I continually shake my head in disbelief that this "news" paper is still in business.
RECORD BEE _____PLEASE hire qualified staff in the future AND HURRY

I want to say that I appreciate everyone who has posted on here. But mainly Lakeport Lady because our family feels the same as you do. We need our time instead of being rushed into talkig. It has only been a day or so. Please let us have our time to grieve..

I did not know Pfc Wilson but the veterans organization (The Chosin Few) I belong to has been supporting his unit with care packages since they went overseas in April. We are also saddened by the loss. When a Marine dies it affects us all. We will be holding a brief memorial service in his honor at our chapter meeting in north San Diego County on Friday, July 25.

Ivan was a special part of my life as a member of the KUSD. He will be truly missed by our community and friends that new him as I did. He recieved the name Ivan the terrible as a small boy. Only because he had a way of showing people he could be anything he wanted to be. Which he did by fighting for our country. This makes me a very happy person to have known Ivan and his Family. Our warmest thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Sympathy and condolences to the Wilson family. While I honor the soldiers who have been killed in these wars, and truly feel the pain of their families, I am aware of the dishonor dished upon us all by the war policies of this administration. I wish I could believe this young man's life was given in the name of democracy, freedom and compassion, as opposed to some notion of "patriotism" based in deceit, proven lies and falsehoods. Perhaps if this administration is indicted for War Crimes, PFC Wilson and thousands of other deaths will come to mean something besides, "What a senseless loss!" And please don't tell me I am politicizing this young man's death, or life. It was politicized when he enlisted and deployed. It was politicized by your president!

Peace,

A Middletown Veteran

Let's see, we'll use this kid's death as a chance to slam the government and the local newspaper. You people are vultures. Lakeport Lady, I don't know what your beef is what the Record Bee account. I read the same information in the Bee story as in the PD story. A solider died here and that's all that matters. My heart goes out to the family for your grievous loss. All you other can keep picking away at the maggots for your own selfish reasons. Good God, you disgust me.

Brian, you're on vacation, no more writing for you young man! Seriously, this is sad news and isn't the time to go off on tangents about whether or not this young mans life was wasted, though the R-B certainly could of and should of handled it better, guess his passing wasn't as important as a teacher getting a DUI or getting in a scuffle. Let's just hope and pray this is the last young person from around here (or anywhere else), who makes news this way, and say a prayer for the friends and family as well.

I am surprised to hear that this poor mom received this news via a phone call! I was under the impression that this news was always delivered in person. This is so sad

Can we all just show a little more respect for this young man who sacrificed his life for our freedom as well as show some respect for his family members. This may be a joke to some of you, but this is a real life casualty for his mother, father, family members and friends. This is very sad for our community. Please respect and honor that. Denise, God Bless you and your family.

My condolences to the family. It just bugs me that this still goes on! I'm not politically inclined , but when i say "Get Our Troops Out Now!", it's based more on humanity principle.

Also, i'm pretty sure that in the event of a military death , word comes to the family via official in person contact, at least that's the way it's always been ,....before cellphones. These days though, it wouldn't be impossible for a good friend and same member of the persons unit to make a call from their cellphone, however right or wrong THAT may be.
