These are the kind of stories that really make you sad that someone got hurt but it also puts a negative light on the breed. These are the kinds of things that will lead to breed banning in the state which is not right for the owners who are responsible for their pets and the animals who would not hurt a fly.

i hope that the boy is ok. but what is a bigger issue in most countys like overton county there is no pet control which there should be. you dont know how many dogs that i see throughout this county when i am driving trough that are just wondering around wondering where there going to get there next meal because people from all around come out hear and just drop there pets that they dont want any more and leave them to fend for them selves. it makes me wonder if any of them will ever attack because they are so hungary. overton county needs to do something about these growing number of stray dogs. all countys should offer some kind of place for pets to go if there owner dont want them anymore so the pets arnt becoming stray animals. i was lucky that i found a vet that would help me when my german shappard started attacking my delmation that is old she attacked another dog in the area. i was 5 months pregnate at the time with twins. i thought to my self what if she attacked me or my kids or some one else for that facted. i called every where. even the local police force in overton they told me to shout her and barrie because they didnt have any pet control. i told them there was no way i could do that because i for 1 dont believe in shouting an animal 2 i was 5 months pregnate at the time and i was in no condition to carrie or dig and barrie a dog. my husbend at the time was out of state working. so i finaly got ahold of someone willing to help me and i had my dog put to sleep at a local vet office and they didnt charge anything because i was in such need of help. so i know how it feels i was just glad that i got the dog put down the right way before she would have hurt me, my kids or someone else.

It's a shame that more people don't wake up and see the damage that can be done to a dog when they are kept chained. It's horrlible that this has to happen to a child and the dog has to be killed just because people don't get it.
If you take a social animal and chain them up with no stimulation or normal, consistent interation, you are asking for trouble. They are like a ticking time bomb. I know it would leave any of us with deep psycological damage if we had to live that way. Social animals have the same requirements for mental stablitity. You just can't chain them by the neck and not expect them to go insane and snap someday. It's cruelty and anyone who forces a dog to live this way has no right to own a dog.
Having a Dog should not be an inalienable right but a revocable priveledge !

I wonder how many of the dogs that attacked were dogs kept perpetually chained in their owners' yards? See:

I could not leave the house one day because a pit bull charged at me when i walked out the door.it is not the first time this dog has been running around the neighborhood.maybe i will just shoot it before it kills someone.animal control is rude when i call them to pick up strays so i don't like to even bother with those idiots..i had to cut off the woman babbbering on about how it was not their job to pick up strays.they just won't shut up even when they don't know what they are talking about.if an animal is running lose it should be picked up.also cats should be picked up too if they are not licensed..they are also a possible health hazard.cats can have rabies just as dogs do. the little kids around here want to pet the cute little kitties and are liable to get claws stuck in them.if someone does get injured by one of those animals it won't be just the owner i blame it will be the city of clarksville and the rude bastards that work for them.
