There is no excuse for this to be happening in public schools. Those in charge needs to put a stop to this sorded behavior from a group of punks, that don't seem to have an interest in learning. My granddaughter is having the same thing happening to her at school in Davidson County. I suppose it will eventually have to come down to a lawsuit, to get Metro to take control and see that it is stopped.

1 " where the hell are the teachers"? The teachers (female) are either too busy having sex with students, while the other teachers (male) are busy worrying about being falsely accused of something inappropriate with/by students. |

|
BTW, is it female students who are " bullying " the girl?
|

Inclusion is a wonderful idea IF the student is benefiting. Clearly, this is not the case. If this young girl is being bullied, by all means, take her out of a regular classroom. If she has been in a resouce room for her entire school experience, it may be difficult to place her in a regular classroom. Just the fact that she doesn't enjoy school anymore is concerning.

HOME SCHOOL THEM!!! I MOVED HERE 13 YEARS AGO AND THEY WANTED MY KIDS ON DRUGS BECAUSE THEY SAID THEY HAD ADD WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS MY KIDS WERE SMARTER AND WOULD FINISH THIER WORK FASTER THAN THE OTHER KIDS. THEY TOLD ME MY ONLY OPTION WAS TO PUT THEM ON MEDICATION. I TOOK THEM OUT AND PUT THEM IN HOME SCHOOLING. MY DAUGHTER HAS GRADUATED MY SON IS DOING GREAT AND MY YOUNGEST HASN'T SEEN PUBLIC SCHOOL. THE MORAL IS PUBLIC SCHOOL ISN'T GOOD FOR KIDS ANYMORE THE SYSTEM HAS FAILED AND THE ONLY REASON THEY WANT KIDS IN PUBLIC SCHOOL IS BECAUSE OF THE GOVERNMENT FUNDING THEY GET. THE MORE KIDS THE MORE MONEY THEY CAN WASTE, TAKE THEM OUT AND HOME SCHOOL THEM YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU DID. I AM. GATEWAY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY GOOGLE IT.

A lot of the time the bullying is not seen by teachers and/or the administration. Unless it is witnessed there really isn't anything that can be done unless the girl points them out. If she did and nothing was done then there is a real problem. unfortunatley teachers and administration nowadays can not do anything to anything to the kids as they are afraid of being sued. |

Resident - I agree with you. I've gone rounds with the public school over the same thing. If a child is smart and finishes their work early, they are apt to get bored, get restless, and talk. The schools then claim they have ADHD - partly because they don't want the responsibility of actually teaching and partly because they get extra money for each child they label. My daughter is several years ahead in math because I've taken it upon myself to teach her and am not relying on the schools to do it (who in my opinion are extremely behind when it comes to teaching math skills.) 3rd graders adding and subtracting single digit numbers??? Come one people, this is first grade work, if not kindergarten. I don't know why they wouldn't let her sit in on other classes for math or even let her skip a grade altogether. The lowest grade she's ever made in any subject is a 98. In a sense, I am homeschooling her and simply relying on the school system as free daycare during the day. It's obvious we can't rely on them to actually teach the kids anything.

IDEA requires that districts provide "the least restrictive environment" for a special needs child's education. Parents who have their child placed in a mainstream (or "inclusive") setting may then have to prove this setting is NOT working before seeking funding for a private or specialized setting. It seems this is what these parents are doing.
There's no need to berate teachers for the actions of the students. Remember, teachers can't be everywhere any more than parents can. What's more, not all teachers have the additional education required to deal with special ed kids. |

This is not suprising that the school board did not respond. School boards in Middle Tennessee these days are a JOKE! They have unqualfied political ungodly people who don't give a rip about the students, the parents or the teachers.
I don't live in Montgomery County but just look at what Sumner County has. The sorriest excuse for School Board leaders that are in exsistence. The director of schools was up to be fired last year and should be but along with the leaders such as the chariman and former chariman should be impeached. We actually need leaders that care about true education. It is a crying shame that this need would have a blind eye turned to it. This should be handled immediately and there should be some type of reprimand to the leaders of the school system for not caring for the needs of this student. |

1 I have an autistic son who is in regular classes half the day also and so far we have not had any issues. He has been in the school system for since he was three (now nine) and we have had wonderful Teachers. I truly feel that if it weren't for the support of the school system our son would not be as far along as he is. With that said I have heard some scary stories from the parents of other children (not just special needs) about the bullying situation in schools. This does need to be addressed and immediately. I would say these parent's have been more patient than I would have been. |

1 The real problems stems from the parents not raising their kids with values. Blame the school system for not protecting these special ed children, but blame the parents for not teaching their kids right from wrong. |

2 You are clueless. Why then should people who have no kids pay taxes that benefit the schools? Why should my taxes benefit those who aren't even in the country legally? Why should my taxes go to pay for improvements to roads that you may frequently travel, but I don't? I'll tell you why, because we are a community and it isn't just about you and what benefits you. It's about what benefits the community as a whole. I pay plenty of taxes that I don't always see a personal benefit for, but they improve things in general for everyone in some way. Stop being selfish. |

1 One of the teachers said it was because they really have no power to do anything to those kids because the parents of those problem children are just as bad if not worse than the kids themselves. The teachers are afraid of retaliation. My daughter was pulled out and homeschooled and now is actually ahead of the "regular" kids in the public school system. So we are happy with her progress, but disappointed that there are so many really hateful people out there now days that are rewarded for their bad behavior. And we wonder why they end up being criminals?!? |
||||
Well, they will get sued one way or the other. Better to be sued for doing what is right than ignoring the situation and allowing a child to suffer. All this suing people is just another sign of the greed of lawyers and the need for mediators! |

My daughter has been a victim of bullying in the public school system also, but if your not in the "proper" social group or in the Beta Club there is never any action taken unless the one getting bullied defends themselves and then our teachers crawl there way out of the teachers lounge long enough to pull the SRO officer off of his doughnuts and coffee to press legal charges and the bullies move onto another victim and then the victims end up in the court system. They have no idea how to teach or control the kids. Its a paycheck to them and that is all. Teachers complain about low pay, but they chose the profession they are in and the pay isn't too bad for how many total days out of the year they work.
