A Target and Harris Teeter is exactly what the area needs. This partnership sounds promising.

MORE traffic on Boston St? Does Canton have the traffic throughput capacity to handle this?

Sounds awesome. I was wondering how long it would take for that site to get used.

Selfishly, I would prefer a Trader Joe's to a Harris Teeter.

This is going to be fantastic. The Baltimore Red Line should go right through here so there will be good transportation to this site from Fell's point eastward.

Phenomenal- it's like White Marsh suburbia is being transplanted into Baltimore City! Seriously, when will this place learn that when one development group has control of such a large area you end up with homogenous development. That site should have been purchased by the city long ago and opened up for competition.

A target opening at Mondawmin Mall ? Lets see how long that will last. Maybe it will last longer than Sams Club by Hanover street bridge or....... maybe not.

Canton has more than enough traffic capacity to handle this especially when you consider that getting to 95 or 895 from this area is trivial.

Are they going to re-route the railroad tracks there that are still being used? The last time I was in that general area, I waited 20 minutes for a stopped train to move and it never did; I had to pull a u-turn and go back the way I came and find another route. Traffic is going to be horrendous.

I agree, It's odd to build a Disney version of a town inside a real one, but first, let's be thankful that it isn't being built over the bones of a historic neighborhood. Secondly, I think there's a place for a development like this here. I serves as an easy introduction to urban living, and there's the generation of jobs and tax revenue. I just hope the red line is there when the city inevitably reaches it's maximum capacity for cars.

I believe the plan is to build a bridge over the railroad tracks.

This article neglected to mention the possibility of a new sports arena that Ed Hale is planning for this same area. The only update on this matter was in Edward Gunt's column yesterday (http://www.baltimoresun.com/b al-to.archcol13may13,0,7469671 .column).

Hopefully it will include a Slots Emporium and OTB. May as well make it a one stop shop that offers something that White Marsh doesn't.

Yeah, they've learned. They're open to condos or apartments:

"Andy Viola, regional vice president of The Bush Cos., said the company plans to build upscale condos or apartments that would range in size from 800 square feet to 2000 square feet. He said he expects the slow housing market to improve by the time construction starts, and believes demand will be driven by the continued expansion of Johns Hopkins' campuses in East Baltimore and nearby Bayview and by growth spurred by the federal government's base realignment."

If the rest of this development looks like what he has done to this point, the city should put a stop to it. This area of the city should remain primarily industrial. Ed Hale has shown that he does not have the sophistocation to be a top developer.

What we really need is for this site to be returned to its original use: An oil refinery.

Why should this side of town remain industrial? I think what Hale is doing in Canton is great for Baltimore.

I agree completely. I think a Target and a grocery store would be okay, but why must the area be turned into Consumption Village, exurb style? On the other hand, I supose it is an improvement over the nearby slums and industrial wasteland.
