Full story: Long Beach Press-Telegram

How do we convey to our children what Veterans Day is? Easy. We tell them that the men and women of the U.S. military are our superheroes.

"Isn't it funny how the hypocrites were accusing gays and lesbians and their supporters of "whining" when a simple majority voted to strip away a civil right of theirs? All you hypocrites kept saying, "The people have spoken, so quit your whining."

Well, I seem to remember that it was an overwhelming victory for those who wanted the legalization of medicinal marijuana. Now we have people "whining" about too many stores, and too many excuses for use.

There are many people who need the benefit of marijuana to counteract the nausea that goes with taking certain toxic drugs, such as HIV and cancer medications.

It's no different from the legalization of alcohol and tobacco. If they continue to regulate marijuana, it will be just like Prohibition. Instead, we should decriminalize it, make it legal for everyone, apply the same rules as are applied to alcohol, and market it, tax it and get this country, or at least our state, out of debt. You want a profitable California? Quit whining, get creative and decriminalize it.

Poor William Merkens, the last democratic to win NY23 was Mike McNulty (Jan 3, 1989 to Jan 3, 1993). After the dimwits were called on that, they changed it to "upstate New York". Funny how upstate New York means the land area above New York city where a lot of dem's have been elected.

Tort reform is allowing doctors who practice below accepted medical standards and damaging someone to get away with it AND continue to do it. No doubt the "tort reform" proponents would love to expand this idea to all facets of our lives including liability for defective products that injure people who use them

This is a US Chamber of Commerce position that has nothing to do with providing good health care and everything to do with taking the rights of the individual away, sacrificed on the alter of large profits.

Mr Steve Mozena of Carson in Wednesday's Nov.11th Letters to the Editor on WHAT VETERANS DAY MEANS made a keen observation about resources teaching Veterans Day. Not finding any books at a book store for his 7 year old daughter.
The American Legion has a 23 minute video called "America's Veterans."
The LBUSD has a copy from the American Legion that it circulates to teachers when requested.
The Los Angeles County Office of Education LACOE at (RETAC) also has a copy that contracted by leased members may check out. Some City or County Public Library systems may also have the DVD or VHS for the public to check out. There did not use to be a lesson plan, but recently one was written up and is now on line. One may view it at:
http://www.legion.org/documents/pdf/veterans....
Other media organizations have videos about Special Holiday's when books may not be available. LBUSD does use some of those also for AV circulation to teachers for instructional resources. The LBUSD Office of Multimedia Services Cable TV would sometimes broadcast the American Legion's "America's Veterans" on Veterans Day or Armed Forces Day with permission and when schedules permit. Radio Station KLON 88.1 FM, when it belonged to the LBUSD, and even after it has an MX sub-channel, was also airing radio programs for special holidays and other school subjects. One that was 28 minutes was from the Army National Guards Citizen Soldier series with David Jenson doing the narration. These multimedia instructional resources help aid leaning in many other ways more than text learning.

Daily Horoscope for December 16

Scorpio

If you're concerned about finding the cash for what usually turns out be an expensive month, the New Moon is the time to start on a budget or some other financial strategy. Try talking to an expert during the coming fortnight, or simply decide to cut down on your expenses. Don't spend so much on presents this year.
