May I suggest that if Mears wins a contract revision then officials at Mears might also look favorably upon their 750 independent contract drivers who are dealing with the same high gas prices. Something as low as a $1 trip charge could help. So far, NO to their contractors. BUT, when faced with the same problems all their contractors are faced with daily they are pleading for mercy with the I-Drive board. May I add that THREE members of the five advisory board have separte contracts with Mears for transportation at Universal, Peabody and Sea World, they might be well served to think about recusing themselves. In closing, Mears actually buys gas wholesale for their three gas stations for taxi, shuttle, and bus operations. The article quotes a retail price .. which may not be the case.

The "interested party" says it all. Mears will not give their independent contractors a break in fact they could care less. I say hold them to their contract. Way to go Mr. Rosen. I'm behind you 100 per cent.

Don't feel sorry for Mears. They are still getting $60 for a cab ride from the airport to downtown. No one at Mears that wears a tie to work is missing any meals.

It kills me when a these guys say, "I'm not making in money"... then when they leave the office, they drive home and open their compound 12 foot automatic iron fence to get into their 2-20 million dollar homes. It's not like some individual who is working pay check to pay check. Mears, do a better job in negotiating. It's called business.

So Mears signs a contract, makes all kinds of money when diesel prices were low and now diesel prices are high and they aren't making as much? Isn't this called business? They probably should have thought about fuel fluctuations before they signed their contract. Kudos to Rosen for trying to make Mears hold up their end of the contract, regardless of his motives.

Yes great Mr. Rosen. Don't give them anything except an audit of ALL cost since the contract beginning. Review the costs don't just give me an "I'm not making any money" kraapola.

The big Mears Monopoly wants everything, now that the diesel fuel is up they want to renegotiate, too bad they don't let their independent contract drivers renegotiate.
Thank God for Mr. Rosen

Will they want to redo the contract once fuel prices go back down and they are making money? I doubt that very much. Suck it up you jerk!!

Mears does not get a $60 fare for a cab ride to the airport, the independant contractor that drives the cab gets the fare which is NO WHERE NEAR $60.

Please know the facts and the truth before you open your piehole. A cab ride from the airport to downtown is around $30, of which the driver must pay a $2.70 airport fee to Mears and only recoups 50 cents of that from the passenger.

Is it true that gas price it's a problem but compagnie as mears can supporte that difference coz of their huge income, talking about helping tourist to me it's a lie coz it's all about money and making mears richer and stronger and the fact to accept that monopole in transportation business to me it's a crime, why the city didn't think to give the trolley to other compagnies or heling other compagnies to grow. Probably the trolley income is not enough for mears but i am sure it could help other compagnies, i will be more then happy to take care of the trolley, my message to the city people is keep watching this monopole chasing the others out of business and take control of the city ,in orlando if you don't work for mears you will face many problems the city take the licsence money and send you to husstle in the street plus you can't work no where coz 90% of the hotels and parcs controled by mears.Thank you to Sara K Clarke and Orlando Sentinel.

The fix seems to be a relative easy fix. The normal trolley fares is one dollar for regular fares; twentyfive cents for seniors and area employees. I would think for the service that is being provided by Mears, that a fifty percent increase in fares, even if it is temporary for the next two yrs. would help provide a fuel surcharge for Mears. The overall customer satisfaction with the trolley operators is such, that the consumer overall approval is likely.

This will teach MEARS a lesson, dont bid fix priced contracts if you cant back it up--even if you lose money.

Thats how it works in the real world. No amendments to their contract.

Snears has a history of ignoring the independent, let them whine all they want but they have this town all but locked up. Their profits and continued wastefulness tells all.
