Firefighter perseveres in effort to aid Sanford plane-crash vic...
Ryan Cooper can still smell the smoke when he goes outside. It haunts his neighborhood a month after a twin-engine Cessna crashed into two homes, claiming the lives of five people.

I applaud the efforts of the firefighter (and his previous heroic acts) but why the fund raisers? Somehow when a plane carrying two people who had more money than the entire neighborhood, crashes into houses, there should be something like INSURANCE to take care of immediate bills, followed by LITIGATION which is sure to follow. The plane fell on their houses; they are innocent victims. It is up to the aircraft company; the pilot and passenger, and the company for whom they worked (or owned) to step in and open the wallets. I have compassion for everyone involved because it was a horrific accident. But that is why we are all supposed to have insurance....There are assets here that can be attached to secure funds for all of the families--have a fund raiser to get the best attorneys to secure that.

One thing not mentioned in the story... the concert mentioned will feature the MONSTERS IN THE MORNING (WTKS 104.1) headlining, with Jim van Fleet's band (weathercaster on WOFL 35 TV). I personally see no one who should be sued, but the families should be supported. Oh, and about Daniel Happy... yeah, he is out of a coma, but there is no way he will be able to come to Florida. If you want more info, listen to the Monsters (6am-11am).

I think the fundraisers are to raise money for more immediate needs. There will no doubt be litigation but as we all know it takes years for litigation to be settled. Even insurance claims take time. These families have needs now that fundraisers can help with. |

I don't understand why Nascar hasn't offered any financial aid to the families. Seems selfish for a billionaire family to not at least offer to pay the little boy's medical bills.

The boys medical bills are free at the Shriners Hospital, until he turns 18, I believe. Every penny. And, who's to say they haven't already given them some money? |

Is there a trust fund at a bank for this family?
|

Although it may be a nice jesture for Nascar to donate money to the families- it wasnt their fault the plane was faulty. SO we as a community need to step in and help this family. I applaud the firefighter who risked his own life to help save the family. And now once again did something heroic by organizing this fund raiser. As for the trust fund- I can only assume there is one. I know about a month ago Timacuan hosted a charity golf tournament for the families that raised about $40,000...

Well said Karen! Ryan Cooper is indeed hero! Those who know you and Ryan know that without a shadow of a doubt! Again, I will point out that people like "Not a Hero, Not even close" are only creating conflict in our community. We should should be united not tearing each other down in ignorance. I still get chills listening to Ryans's 911 call as he is getting on his gear and rushing to help. Thanks Karen & Ryan for all you are doing!!
